Liverpool v Watford Predictions

Liverpool booked their place in the final of the Europa League with an excellent home victory over Villarreal on Thursday night. They have no chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season via a top 4 place so a win in that competition would see them join Europe’s elite once again. It’s a tournament Jurgen Klopp has focused on, but that’s not to say his side’s domestic form has suffered too badly. They were soundly beaten by Swansea in their last league game but prior to that they had only lost once in nine league games and head into this one with confidence.

Liverpool are still without captain Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi for this one, and Mamadou Sakho won’t play again this season after his initial 30 day FIFA ban. Brad Smith is also suspended after his two yellow cards in that defeat to Swansea but Klopp could welcome back Connor Randall who made his first team debut last month but missed the Swansea clash through illness.

Watford’s season started very well but they’ve very much gone off the boil since the turn of the year. Still, their excellent start to the season has guaranteed their Premier League survival and a mid-table finish looks likely. There are doubts over manager Quique Sanchez Flores’ future at the club but no one can deny what a job he’s done with the Hornets who were relegation favourites in August.

The Watford boss is without Etienne Capoue who may miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury in the FA Cup Semi-Final, and long term absentees Tommie Hoban and Joel Ekstrand are still out.

Watford’s’ reliance on front two Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo is clear to see. Of Watford’s 36 league goals this season 25 of them have come from their strikers, and when one or both are off form, Watford find it difficult to win games. However, I think they’ll get on the scoresheet here, Liverpool have only kept one clean sheet in the league in their last eight games and that, coupled with the possibility of a Europa League hangover, I think it’s folly to rule out Watford scoring. For me, though, they won’t score enough and this has a home win written all over it. My first Liverpool v Watford betting tip is for Liverpool to win and both teams to score, the best odds are with bet365.

LIVERPOOL TO WIN AND BTTS – 15/8 with bet365.

Both sides have seen plenty of goals in their matches of late. Liverpool’s’ last six league games yielded 20 goals, with Watford seeing 19 in  their last six. I think they’ll be a few in this too, my second Liverpool v Watford prediction is for there to be over 3.5 goals in this one.

OVER 3.5 GOALS – 13/8 with Sky Bet.

For my final football tip, I’m going for the home side to win both halves. An entertaining game in store for us I feel and one that sees the home side win comfortably. My third Premier League prediction for Liverpool v Watford is for Liverpool to win both halves.

LIVERPOOL TO WIN BOTH HALVES – 11/4 with Coral.
