Football betting tips and Hull vs Brentford predictions for tonight’s Championship fixture.
There’s just a single midweek game in the Championship as Hull play their game-in-hand against in-form Brentford. We’ve got the best bets for the match.
Hull v Brentford Preview
Hull
Hull are guaranteed a play-off place in the Championship and they will spend the next couple of weeks jostling for position. Ideally, they will be looking to finish 4th and ensure a second leg tie at the KC Stadium.
Steve Bruce’s side will be disappointed to miss out on the automatic promotion place, but with the top three having been so consistent over the past couple of weeks, the play-offs is their only possible route back to the Premier League. They’ve been very impressive at home, losing just once here all season. It’s their away form, which has been a little suspect. Killing teams off has been a problem for the Tigers all season. Defensively sound, they’ve kept plenty of clean sheets, but despite the 19 strikes of Abel Hernandez, they haven’t scored enough.
They had their chances against Middlesbrough a few weeks ago, couldn’t convert them and were sucker-punched by an injury time David Nugent goal. Likewise at the weekend, 2-1 up going into the final exchanges, Stuart Dallas’ 88th minute equaliser grabbed Leeds a point. They will be second favourite behind whichever of the top three drops out, but they will need to be more decisive in the end of season lottery.
It was as recent as February 27th that Hull topped the table, but sadly for Steve Bruce and his side, they haven’t been able to keep the pace and a less than adequate March has seen them drop away. They have dominated many games throughout the course of the season and should have been challenging the three teams on 87 points, but alas, they will have overcome Derby County in the play-offs. They will not look forward to a visit to the iPro, a stadium where they were battered 4-0 a few weeks ago.
In Humberside, they’ve won 21 times and lost just a single game. Impressively, they’ve only conceded 11 goals at home all season, a record only bettered by Middlesbrough.
Brentford
Brentford are having a terrific end to the season. Drifting into nothingness, their season looked dead and buried and Dean Smith was facing a difficult spell in the dugout. They’ve now won four of the last five and put four past a beleaguered MK Dons relegating the Buckinghamshire outfit in the process. Scott Hogan is back from his long term injury, Lasse Vibe is scoring for fun and they are looking a decent side.
A top ten finish should be the aim according to midfielder and weekend goalscorer Ryan Woods as the Bees look up the table. They’ve take 16 points from a possible 18 this month and it’s hard to argue against them staying the top half. They currently sit 10th, two points behind 9th place Birmingham and had their run of form started a few weeks earlier, we’d be talking about them as possible play-off outsiders.
They are embroiled in their own separate West London battle and whilst they are out of sight of underachieving Fulham, victory here would put five points between themselves and QPR.
Hull v Brentford Team News
Steve Bruce made the changes ahead of Saturday’s tie and both Chuba Akpom and Tom Huddlestone both impressed after being given the nod. Harry Maguire and Curtis Davies are likely to remain at the heart of the defence with Michael Dawson still on the sidelines. Mo Diame is back to full fitness and came off the bench against Leeds. He may find his way back into the side here.
Dean Smith is unlikely to tinker with a winning side and a team on a decent run of form. Lasse Vibe is leading the line superbly and even if Scott Hogan is back, it is unlikely he will get a start.
Hull v Brentford Predictions
Although many will fancy Hull in this encounter, I can’t ignore the current form of the Bees. There is confidence soaring through the players and they should give the Tigers a hard time. Hull have only lost once at home all season, so I can’t see Brentford taking all three back to West London, but one is certainly a possibility. My first Hull v Brentford betting tip is for the match to end a Draw. It can be backed at 29/10 with Bet Victor.
TIP 1 – DRAW at 29/20 with Bet Victor.
Hull have only conceded 11 goals at home all season, but five of those have come in the last five matches, including two against Leeds on Saturday. Brentford have hit 10 goals in their last three away trips and I fancy them to get on the scoresheet here. My second Championship prediction for Hull v Brentford tonight is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can be backed at 4/5 with Bet365.
TIP 2 – BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE at 4/5 with Bet365.
The Hull players dominate the market, but Lasse Vibe is surely worth a play at over 3/1 for anytime goalscorer. He’s in fine form and Hull’s defending in recent games has left a lot to be desired. My third Hull v Brentford prediction is for Lasse Vibe to score anytime. He is 10/3 with Paddy Power.
TIP 3 – VIBE TO SCORE ANYTIME at 10/3 with Paddy Power.
