Liverpool v Everton – Liverpool to win

The Merseyside derby to begin with as a disappointing season for Everton could end in defeat to their biggest rivals. Roberto Martinez isn’t the most popular man in Goodison at the moment and his side could find a resurgent Liverpool too much. Jurgen Klopp’s side will be focussed on the Europa League Semi-Final but they could improve their league position here. The German has the luxury of being able to rotate his squad following their victory over Bournemouth on Sunday. They seem to have plenty of firepower at the moment and with Everton’s inability to defend, they should edge this Merseyside derby. Luckily this match isn’t being played at Goodison as there could be overwhelming dissent in the direction of the Toffees boss.

Valencia v Eibar – Valencia win

There’s definitely been an improvement since the departure of Gary Neville in Valencia’s form. They’ve now won two on the bounce including toppling the leaders Barcelona at the weekend. They’d previously beaten Sevilla and they should be able to notch a third successive victory here. Eibar aren’t great travellers and it’s now win in seven away games now. They got hit for four by Real Madrid and whilst this is an easier task, I don’t think they’ll come away any points here. They recently drew away at Getafe, who are comfortably the worst team in La Liga at the moment. Valencia are looking for their sixth home win of the season and I think they’ll find it here.

 

PEC Zwolle v NEC Nijmegen – PEC Zwolle win

Over in the Eredivisie, both of these sides are home specialists, so it makes sense to side with PEC Zwolle here. They’ve won four of the last five here and look a good bet against a side who have failed to record a victory on the road in their last five matches. NEC occupy the final Europa League Play-Off spot in the division, a position which PEC Zwolle are eyeing up themselves. With a victory here, the home side could leapfrog their opponents so there’s plenty of play for. There’s only three games round in this season’s competition, so every point matters and this will be played at a thunderous pace and I fancy PEC Zwolle, the more seasoned of the Eredivisie sides to claim all three points.

 

Chievo v Frosinone – Chievo win

Plenty of fixtures to choose from in Serie A and based on the last five matches, Chievo are the second best form team in the division. They’re unbeaten in the last five games, winning three and drawing two and they host Frosinone here. Their recent home matches against sides towards the bottom of the table have all resulted in victories. Capri, Genoa, Sampdoria and Palermo have all been beaten whilst there have been draws with Sassuolo and AC Milan, two teams above them in the league. There was victory at the weekend for Frosinone, but that was against bottom club Verona and considering the form of the hosts, this is a huge step up. Frosinone always look half decent going forward, but they’ll be caught out at the back by a lethal Chievo side.

 

Empoli v Verona – Empoli to win

We have already mentioned Verona, they’ve been poor all season and they face a tricky trip to Empoli. The hosts haven’t been pulling up any trees recently, but they are unbeaten in three home matches and beat Fiorentina here last time, which is good enough for me. Their bare form doesn’t look brilliant, but they’ve had tricky away trips to Lazio and Juventus and they only conceded three goals across those two fixtures. Verona have just a single victory to their name on the road all season and that was against Bologna – a side who have the 2nd worst form in Serie A currently. This could be settled by a single goal, but it should be in favour of the home side, who can edge this fixture.
