Derby are in serious danger of missing out of the play-offs again and they face a very difficult task at home to promotion chasing Hull City.
Derby vs Hull City Betting Preview
Losing at Cardiff was a huge blow for Darren Wassall and his side on Saturday as the Rams came away from South Wales empty handed. Last season, they missed out on the play-offs on the final day of the season and they will be desperate to be in the end of season shake up this time around. That defeat puts Cardiff within two points of them and there is once again a nervousness around the East Midlands.
This isn’t the easiest task as they look to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment. After an indifferent phase, Hull proved they still have the fight and the quality with a 4-0 demolition of Bristol City at the weekend. They haven’t been scoring, but hitting four was the perfect way to answer any critics.
The Tigers even completed the job without their top scorer Abel Hernandez, who remained on the bench throughout. The Uruguayan was described as ‘tired’ by Steve Bruce, but his replacement Sone ALuko has shone in recent weeks and is likely to get the nod here once again. Aluko doesn’t score anywhere near enough, but has a bag of tricks which are used to create chances and bring his teammates into play. He’s a very clever player, but isn’t going to hit 20 a season.
Hull now sit three points behind Brighton, who have played a game more and four points adrift of second place Middlesbrough. They need to pick up as many points as they can and hope their rivals slip up if they are to claim automatic promotion.
Steve Bruce’s side still have the best defence in the division and concede an average 0.61 goals a game. It might be hard for Derby to break through and they are going to have to be at their best. They’ve only hit four in their last four home matches and I think they might struggle to get past their opponents.
Worryingly, they’ve won just one in their last four and have kept just two cleans in six. They’ve been inconsistent and whether Darren Wassall is the answer remains to be seen. With the money spent, they can’t afford to miss out on promotion once more and the thought of another season in the Championship will not please those ardent Derby fans.
They will have to fight for the play-off place and instead of worrying about Cardiff’s result, they need to ensure they pick up as many points as possible in the final few games.
Derby vs Hull Team News
As mentioned above, it seems likely that Sone Aluko will start in place of Abel Hernandez up front for Hull City. The likes of Robert Snodgress & Sam Clucas are in decent form whilst Mo Diame is a regular starter.
For Derby, Jeff Hendrick is a doubt for this encounter. An injury setback for the midfielder means he is likely to sit this one out. The extent of the injury is unknown, but they’ll be hoping he will play again this season.
