Sunday’s Football Accumulator Tips
Liverpool to beat Crystal Palace
Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park this weekend after a week of mixed fortunes, to face a Crystal Palace side in freefall after a poor run of form. The visitors suffered cup final heartache last weekend, losing out to Manchester City on penalties in the final of the League Cup. However, they bounced back in superb fashion in midweek, defeating the same opponents with a comprehensive 3-0 victory to keep their slim hopes of a top four finish alive. They’ve netted nine times in their last two league games, and have won three of their last five on the road, leaving them in eighth place; six points off the Champions League spots with 11 games remaining. Crystal Palace meanwhile have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, and are without a win since Christmas after making a good start to the season. They’ve lost seven of their last 10 with just three draws in that period, and are on a run of four straight defeats at home, losing to the likes of Watford and Bournemouth in the process. They certainly have the capability to spring a decent result here, however on current form it’s worth siding with Liverpool after their impressive display in midweek.
Manchester United to beat West Brom
Manchester United have certainly bounced back in the last couple of weeks, recording two wins in the Premier League as well as qualification to the last eight of the FA Cup and the next round of the Europa League, even with a lengthy injury list which includes a number of first-team regulars. Last weekend saw them pick up a fine win over Arsenal, and they backed it up with a late win over Watford in midweek to move back in contention for a top four finish. They find themselves level on points with Manchester City, and a win here could leave them just a point off third-place Arsenal depending on their result in the North-London derby. They face a tricky test at West Brom however, who are on a decent run themselves; with their latest point coming away at table-topping Leicester in midweek. The Baggies have lost just once in their last five, and have won three and drawn too of their last five home fixtures as they push ever closer to Premier League safety. They will certainly prove tough opposition for United, however given the way things have opened up at the top of the league, it could be worth chancing them to get the points here.
Lyon to beat Guingamp
Lyon have found some form in recent weeks after a disappointing start to the season, and have moved within touching distance of the Champions League places with four wins from their last five. More impressively however, they became the first team to inflict defeat over runaway leaders PSG, running out 2-1 winners last weekend. Unbeaten at home in their last five with four wins and a draw, they look a good bet to extend that run here against a struggling Guingamp side. The visitors find themselves just four points and two places above the bottom three, and are without a win in four matches after two draws and two defeats. They’ve managed just three wins on the road in 14 matches; losing over half and scoring only nine times. Very much involved in a relegation battle; Guingamp look up against it here, and given Lyon will be full of confidence after last week’s heroics, can continue their good form with another home victory.
Barcelona to beat Eibar
Barcelona continue to dominate the La Liga table, and can edge closer to retaining their title when they travel to Eibar on Sunday. The visitors are in imperious form of late, and have won each of their last 10 games in the league to open up an eight-point gap over second-placed Atletico Madrid. They’ve only failed to win five games this term, and have won their last away fixtures; the latest a 5-1 rout at Rayo Vallecano on Thursday, and should extend that run here. The home side have lost ground on the European places in recent weeks with four defeats from their last five games, slipping to eighth place in the process. Eibar have won half of their 14 home matches this season, but suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Las Palmas last time out. They will be relatively content with their season so far, however Barcelona should have more than enough quality to inflict defeat on them here.
