Birmingham vs Hull City predictions and betting tips for this week’s Thursday night Championship fixture including a correct score tip and anytime goalscorer.
Hull were knocked off the top spot at the weekend and they will look to regain pole position when they travel to St Andrews for a rare Thursday night game in the Championship. We’ve got the best football betting tips for the match.
Birmingham v Hull Predictions
Burnley are the new leaders after Hull failed to see off Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night. The Tigers have still only conceded twice in 2016 and still look an excellent proposition for promotion, but they need to add a few more goals to their game. Sam Clucas was incredibly unlucky not to find a way past Kieran Westwood as he hit the post and went close on more than one occasion.
They travel to St Andrews which is another fixture that won’t be easy. Teams have started to play five across midfield in order to combat Hull and rightly or wrongly been playing for the goalless draw. Birmingham are unlikely to do this, but Hull need to find a method of dealing with such stifling tactics.
Birmingham could do with the points as well for their own play-off campaign and they will fancy their chances against a side who have been hit and miss on the road this season.
The Blues have only lost once in six home matches in the Championship and that was against Sheffield Wednesday. Wins over Bolton, Brentford, Cardiff and Ipswich have been included in that run. They don’t draw often here, they either win or lose. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at QPR was disappointing, but Birmingham by their own admission didn’t turn up in the first half and were much better in the second 45.
These two sides have just missed each other with various promotions and relegations and it means they haven’t met at St Andrews since 2012 in the Championship where Hull ran out 3-2 winners.
Birmingham are a very solid outfit and have beaten some decent opposition here, but their loss to Sheffield Wednesday takes away too much confidence in backing them for my Championship predictions. After being below par away from home for the majority of the season, Hull have lost just once in the last seven matches on the road.
Paul Lambert said that Hull put in the perfect away performance after they emerged with all three points from Ewood Park in February. They could easily do the same again here. Steve Bruce knows this division well and his side is built on solid foundations I think they can take all three points back to Humberside. My first Birmingham v Hull City betting tip is for Hull to win.
