Wolves v Derby predictions and today’s football betting tips for the Championship fixture with the best odds for our tipsters’ three bets.
There was concern from Kenny Jackett about the manner in which his team limply lost to Brentford in midweek. His Wolves side look to bounce back against rejuvenated Derby County on Saturday lunchtime.
Wolves v Derby Predictions
It’s been a season of ups and downs for Wolves. After a poor run in November and December amid speculation over Kenny Jackett’s job, Wolves kickstarted a mini-run after beating Reading, suddenly looking like play-off hopefuls again. But, it’s all gone a bit sour once more with three consecutive defeats and no win in seven in the Championship.
They’re struggling for goals and although they bought in striker Joe Mason, Jackett has openly admitted, he doesn’t know how he fits into the system. Nouah Dicko’s injury has been a huge hindrance this season and they’ve been unable to unearth the next Benik Afobe since his departure. Adam Le Fondre just doesn’t seem the striker of old and rarely threatens and although James Henry and new signing Michael Zyro will chip in with a few, you can’t rely on midfielders and wingers as your main goal source.
Wolves have netted just a single goal in four games now and they’ve failed to score in three of their last four matches. There was a time when you could always rely on them for a goal. You wouldn’t be backing them at the moment.
We correctly predicted that Derby would follow up their win over Brentford with another three points against an average Blackburn side. A single Jacob Butterfield goal after eight minutes was enough to take all the points at Pride Park and they’ve now put themselves back in the promotion picture with six points from a possible six.
Darren Wassall was pleased with his player’s spirit on Saturday and he will be looking to bring those positives into this match. They have the joint best away form in the league with Hull City, only slipping up against Middlesbrough, Burnley and Nottingham Forest on the road.
Wolves have the 4th worst home form in the league, winning just four times at Molineux and losing six times. They’ve beaten Fulham, Huddersfield, Charlton and Reading here, all of whom are in the bottom half of the table. They’ve added Jeremy Helan to their squad from Sheffield Wednesday and although he adds a combative style, I don’t he will be enough to turn the tide here.
Derby have come out of the end of their poor run, the spirit in the camp seems much happier under Wassall and they have the second best away form in the league. Couple this with Wolves’ winless run and their poor record at Molineux, Derby have to be backed.
My first Wolves v Derby prediction is for Derby to win. They can be backed at 5/4 with Betfred.
Derby’s defence has been pretty strong this season and their 1-0 victory over Blackburn was their 15th clean sheet of the season. They have the 5th best defence in the league, conceded just 28 times in 33 games. That’s less than one a game and without much firepower, it’s going to be difficult for Wolves to get past them.
My second Wolves v Derby betting tip is for Both Teams to Score? No. It’s 4/5 with Coral
The goals are being spread around at Derby recently. Jacob Butterfield is always a decent price though and he or his midfield partner Jeff Hendrick would be worth siding with. They’re both very similar prices, but as he has a taste for goal, the former is the slightly better option.
My third Wolves v Derby betting tip is for Jacob Butterfield to score anytime. He can be backed at 13/2 with Paddy Power.
