Man City v Leicester Predictions

 

Manchester City have amassed 28 points from their 12 games at the Etihad, scoring 33 goals in the process. Away from the King Power, Leicester have gained a League's best 25 points and this meeting is going to be a tough game for both sides.

 

The top of the table can all change depending on this result. Should Manuel Pellegrini's men win, they'll replace Leicester and go into first place on goal difference. If the away side take all three points they'll go six points clear and City would drop to fourth if Tottenham and Arsenal both win their matches this weekend. Even though there's 14 matches left of the season to go, this game could go a long way in deciding where the Premier League trophy ends up in May.

 

The previous meeting between these two ended goalless as for both sides nullifying the threat of the other became the priority. I think this one will be different though. A goal from either side will open the game up and with Sergio Aguero and Jamie Vardy both on fire coupled with the fact that City have only failed to score at home once this season goals look likely.

 

The home side are still without Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasri. Jesus Navas picked up a hamstring injury in Tuesday nights' win at Sunderland and is likely to miss out, though Fabian Delph and Eliaquim Mangala could be fit to return.

 

Shinji Okazaki partnered Vardy up front in their midweek win over Liverpool and Claudio Ranieri could go with the two up top again. Jeffrey Schlupp and Matty James are still a couple of weeks away but new signing Daniel Amartey could play a part.

 

Whilst it's not a 'must-win' fixture for either side, a win here will issue a statement of intent to the other title challengers. It's going to be a tense affair but I think the home side will do enough to take all three points.

Where would either side be without their star strikers? Sergio Aguero has been in and out of the side through injury this season but he's still scored 13 goals. Even when City haven't played well Aguero has produced moments of magic scoring vital goals, with the 1-0 win over Sunderland midweek being a perfect example. For Leicester, Jamie Vardy’s transformation has turned them into genuine title contenders. He only scored five goals last season but this season he's scored 18 so far and leads the Premier League goalscoring chart. Both defences face a tough job keeping them quiet and I don't think either will succeed.
