Football Accumulator Tips – 27/01/16
Man City to beat Everton
Starting with a short one. Roberto Martinez has come under both scrutiny and criticism this week after his side’s loss to Swansea on Sunday. Martinez has never been one for organising a defence (illustrated by twice signing Antolin Alacaraz) and his side couldn’t keep the struggling South Wales side out. They are leading from the first leg of this league cup tie of course and they recently held City to a 0-0 draw in the league. I think it’s a different story here at the Etihad and I think the Citizens will turn the screw. They have a lot of firepower and it’s difficult to see Everton keeping them at bay once again, especially if they defend like they did on Sunday. City could win this and still not progress of course, but I think in 90 minutes, they will have the advantage.
NEC Nijmegen to beat Twente
There’s a number of matches in the Eredivisie in what is shaping up to be an interesting season. With Feyenoord slipping up twice in quick succession, it now looks like a straight shootout between Ajax and PSV, but there are number of sides lurking behind in search of European places. NEC are one such outfit and their excellent home form is part of their success. Ernest Faber has done a magnificent job and must be commended. Remarkably they only arrived in the Eredivisie this season after clinching the Eerste Divisie title less than a year ago and they are on course to become the most successful promoted side in Eredivisie history. They face Twente, who are in disarray financially and in limbo over the future of midfielder Hakim Ziyech, but they have shown good spirit recently. A surprise 4-0 win over Heracles after the winter break was followed by a battling 4-2 loss to PSV. NEC don’t lose many here and they concede few, I think they’ll be too strong.
Vitesse to beat PEC Zwolle
Vitesse lost manager Peter Bosz over the winter break as he claimed he was unable to turn down the chance to manage Maccabi Tel Aviv and take over the outgoing Slavisa Jokanovic. He left a tremendous legacy at the club with the side high in the Eredivisie and loaning some top class players from around Europe. Their connection with Chelsea has been fruitful and the goals of Dominic Solanke have helped enormously, but they have a number of other talented players. Raschica and Qazaishvili are dangerous and will create plenty of chances. They are also fairly solid at the back with under 20 goals conceded this season and they restricted leaders Ajax to just one at the weekend. They should be decent at home here against PEC Zwolle who are having a good season, but find more success at home than on the road.
ADO Den Haag to beat Groningen
ADO Den Haag are one of the form sides in the league and they are travelling to bottom club Groningen for this midweek match. Groningen were unlucky at the weekend, hitting the woodwork in their defeat to Heracles and they need to add to their two wins all season if they are to keep tabs on the sides above. They look good to return to the Eerste Divisie, especially with the resurgence of Twente and Cambuur of late. ADO have lost just twice in the last eight games, the most recent of those to leaders Ajax by a single goal. They’ve collected 11 points from nine away matches including taking maximum points from Heerenveen and AZ
AZ Alkmaar to beat Cambuur
Cambuur have seen a mini resurgence of late as they look to move away from the danger zone, likewise AZ look back to their best form from the early part of the season. The home side suffered a mid-season slump losing four in a row, but they’re back refreshed from the break and have won back to back games. A narrow 1-0 win over Roda JC was followed by a thumping 4-2 win over Feyenoord and they can look to dispatch Cambuur here. The visitors were edged out at the weekend by ADO Den Haag and it makes it back to back defeats in January. They own the leakiest defence in the league and if AZ can put four past Feyenoord, they might enjoy themselves here.
