Both Teams to Score Tips Today
Colchester v Fleetwood
There’s a couple of fixtures in the Football League as well as FA Cup on Tuesday night and this is one which is likely to produce goals for both teams. Colchester have been in woeful form, picking up just a single point in eight games, but there are signs of improvement under Kevin Keen. A 1-1 draw was followed by a last minute defeat to Sheffield United and they aren’t getting opened up as easily and cut apart like they were throughout November and December. Fleetwood have had a mixed campaign, their match against Rochdale was postponed at the weekend and it feels like they haven’t played much football lately. Because of their elimination from the FA Cup, the last game for the Cod Army was over a fortnight ago when they beat out-of-form Bury 2-0. That was their first clean sheet since the 24th October and despite their lowly position and disappointing recent form, Colchester usually do score. They have only failed to net seven times all season, only twice since Halloween and latterly at the Priestfield Stadium where Gillingham hold the division’s best home form. Fleetwood have only failed to score once in eight and there should be goals in Essex on Tuesday night.
MK Dons v Northampton
A short trip down the M1 for Cobblers fans isn’t too much to ask on a Tuesday evening for this FA Cup replay. The first leg finished 2-2 and was a topsy-turvy match which saw an own goal benefit the Championship side before a double from Northampton’s Ricky Holmes. There’s plenty at stake here though as Premier League Champions Chelsea will be visiting the winner of this tie. It’s a lucrative match which Northampton would benefit from significantly, but they need to get past their near neighbours from the Championship first. They’ll be buoyed by the fact that the Dons conceded five here against Burnley, but Karl Robinson tightened up at the back as they clambered to a 1-0 win against Reading at the weekend. That was their first clean sheet at Stadium:MK since the start of November when they beat struggling Charlton. Chris Wilder’s side have had two successive 2-1 victories on the road and they always look a little susceptible at the back, but have potency in abundance.
Portsmouth v Ipswich
Another game which finished 2-2 in the first leg and it could be equally as exciting down on the South Coast this time around. Pompey haven’t played since the first leg having seen their match at Accrington postponed at the weekend and they’ll be up for this. They scored three times on their last outing at Fratton Park and that brought their total to 14 goals in four matches in front of the home fans. Those long suffering Portsmouth supporters are finally having something to shout about. Ipswich will be much tougher than the League Two opposition though and the Tractor Boys have only lost once since the end of October. They have conceded in each of the last three Championship matches though and they could find the Portsmouth attack too much.
Bolton v Eastleigh
This was the match to produce the shock of the 3rd round according to most. It didn’t quite happen though as Bolton bundled home an equaliser late on and took us to a replay at the Macron. There’s been no improvement for the Trotters since then as they saw Ben Amos dismissed early on in the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. Players are still rumoured to be off and Zac Clough, Emile Heskey and David Wheater are all missing for this tie. The latter is out until at least March. That takes away some stability at the back and it’s likely that Eastleigh could find the net. The visitors have scored in each and every game since a 1-0 defeat to Grimsby on the 21st of November. Just six clean sheets all season for the Trotters including one of the opening day of the season is not a great record and will leave them vulnerable here. They should have enough Championship firepower to at least find the net here with Gary Madine showing an eye for goal recently. It should be another exciting 90 minutes.
Bristol City v West Brom
And the final selection in our BTTS accumulator on Tuesday night is the televised tie which is on BT Sport. Ashton Gate is the venue as managerless Bristol City host Premier League West Brom. Steve Cotterill was sacked during the week and his team showed a terrific display of character and resistance beating leaders Middlesbrough in the 96th minute on Saturday. They do score goals, but their problems have been at the back, with plenty of sloppy goals shipped. They were cruising into the 4th round until James Morrison had his say. The good news for City is that the midfielder is likely to be missing for this tie, but the Baggies still have enough firepower to get on the scoresheet. They were insipid at Southampton on Saturday, but they did stick two past Chelsea on Wednesday and Tony Pulis will find a way for his side to score here.
