Tonight’s Accumulator Tips
Stoke City to beat Norwich
The Britannia is usually a fortress and Mark Hughes’ men should make it difficult for Norwich to get anything from this game. The Canaries aren’t in a bad run of form under Alex Neil, but they conceded three without reply on their last away outing at White Hart Lane. They had the very same scoreline inflicted upon them by Manchester City in the FA Cup and they’ve only collected eight points from 10 away matches this season. It was a bit of a surprise when Stoke were overturned by Palace here recently, but the Eagles are one of the league’s away specialists. The Potters have beaten Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City here and recently hit four past Everton at Goodison. They overcame a potentially tricky cup tie against Doncaster and I’ll put my faith in their home form here.
Watford to beat Southampton
I’m going to take a chance on the Hornets here to get something from the South Coast. They beat Newcastle in the FA Cup and that put an end to a run of two defeats in the Premier League. There is absolutely no disgrace in losing to Spurs though – a side who have been playing well and Watford were leading Manchester City for the majority of the match before succumbing to their firepower late on. I’m putting the Saint’s 4-0 thumping of Arsenal down as a one off. They looked truly convincing that day, but have since lost to West Ham and Norwich and Palace in the cup. Watford look strong and they don’t ship goals easily. Troy Deeney is a force to be reckoned with and they have the 7th best away form in the league. I think they will take all three points back to Hertfordshire.
Arsenal to beat Liverpool
It’s often the Gunners who are amidst an injury crisis, but the shoe is on the other foot as they head to Anfield to face a side who are missing several first team pros. Hamstrings seem to be snapping on Merseyside and Jurgen Klopp faces selection dilemmas. He put out an extremely young side against Exeter in the cup, but the likes of Lallana and Firmino will be back in favour for this game. For tonight’s accumulator tip I still fancy Arsenal to come out on top here though. Arsene Wenger’s side were truly awful against Southampton, but they’ve responded with two victories and two clean sheets and that’s the perfect answer to their critics. Klopp will surely have to turn to a few untested players and they could be undone by the Gunners quick and incisive passing. This game may have come a week or two too soon for Liverpool and reinforcements will be needed in January.
Hull City to beat Cardiff
Hull have been a mixed bag in recent weeks and although their promotion challenge is still very much on, they have lost a bit of ground on the more consistent acts such as Derby and Middlesbrough. It’s their away form which was causing them problems, but a vital (and somewhat fortuitous) 2-1 victory away at QPR ended that poor run of results on the road. At the KC, they have been excellent and very difficult to beat. They have the second best home form in the league taking 29 points from 12 home matches and they have too much for a Cardiff side that were booed off against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup. They haven’t been at the Cardiff City Stadium with the 4th best home form in the league. Away, they have picked up less than a goal a game and that could be a problem here.
