Chelsea v Scunthorpe Betting Tips and Predictions – FA Cup

Chelsea v Scunthorpe United predictions and betting tips for Sunday’s FA Cup fixture where Chelsea will be looking to avoid a huge FA Cup upset.

Chelsea host League One side Scunthorpe United on Sunday for this FA Cup Third Round tie and our tipster has picked out three betting tips for the fixture.

Chelsea v Scunthorpe Predictions

Chelsea's problems this season have been well documented, culminating in the sacking of Jose Mourinho and re-employing Guus Hiddink. Hiddink won this competition last time he was in charge and since he's re-joined the club he's had a steadying influence on the players who looked disinterested and frustrated under his predecessor. They've gained draws against Watford and Manchester United and a fantastic win away at high flying Crystal Palace.

As for Scunthorpe, they're having a decent run themselves. They've only lost one in six and are unbeaten in the last three away matches, winning two of them.  They sit in 15th in the League One table, only eight points away from a playoff spot but only seven ahead off Blackpool who occupy the last relegation place.

One man who has helped ensure the Irons have stayed away from the drop zone is striker Paddy Madden. Madden has scored 14 goals this season and is expected to start in this one despite suffering from a minor hamstring problem. Fellow striker Kevin Van Veen may also start after impressing on his return to the starting line up in the 1-1 draw with Wigan. Scunny have scored in nine of their last eleven away games and whilst Chelsea are of course an entirely different prospect to anything they've faced in the third tier they'll give everything here. And hell, this is the FA Cup and anything can happen. I can see them causing problems and getting on the scoresheet so for my first tip I'm going for both teams to score.

My first Chelsea v Scunthorpe prediction is for both teams to score, the best odds for this BTTS tip are 21/20 with Coral.

It's difficult to say what starting 11 the Chelsea boss will pick. On one hand his team have three games in six days and he's likely to rest a few. On the other, he won't be taking this game lightly. The Chelsea players are unlikely to have forgotten the shock of the competition last season when they were two up at home to Bradford City only to inexplicably lose the game 4-2. The FA Cup is probably Chelsea's best chance of winning silverware this season so I'm expecting a professional performance from the home side. In truth, they should put a few past Mark Robins' men whatever side they select.

I'm going in the handicap market for my second Chelsea v Scunthorpe betting tip, going for Chelsea minus 2 with odds of 7/5 with Paddy Power.

I think they'll be a few goals in this so my third betting tip for Chelsea v Scunthorpe is a no-brainer. Get on over 4.5 goals, the best odds are with Betfred who are offering 5/2.
