Sunday's Football Accumulator Tips

Arsenal to beat Aston Villa

Arsenal travel to Villa Park on Sunday, boosted by a terrific performance in the Champions League on Wednesday; where they overcame Greek side Olympiakos to qualify for the knockout stages. They arrive here second in the table after defeating Sunderland last weekend, and are just two points off top spot after 15 games. Despite taking just a point from their last two away games, their form on the road prior to that has been good with five wins from six, and they will fancy their chances against the league’s bottom side.

Aston Villa are enduring a retched season and find themselves bottom of the Premier League with just six points and one win to their name. They appear destined for the drop; seven points from safety as we approach Christmas and their home form is also a major worry. Two draws and five defeats unsurprisingly leave them with the worst record in the division, and with just five goals in front of their home fans; it’s hard to make a case for them here so Arsenal are in our accumulator tip.

Tottenham to beat Newcastle

Tottenham host Newcastle on Sunday, having emerged as real contenders for a top four spot after a decent start to the season. Spurs have suffered just one defeat so far; which came back on the opening day, and have become a difficult side to beat highlighted by a run of 14 games without a loss. They would certainly like to convert more of their draws (8) into wins, however sat in fifth position; they find themselves just three points off the Champions League spots, and six points off the leaders Leicester. They boast the second best home form in the league, with four wins and four draws, including 4-1 wins over Manchester City and West Ham in recent weeks. And following on from topping their Europa League group with a comprehensive victory over Monaco on Thursday night, they look a good bet for our acca tip here to continue that winning run.

Despite a morale boosting victory over Liverpool last weekend, Newcastle arrive at White Hart Lane in the bottom three with just three wins from 15 thanks to some horrendous results in recent weeks. Their last away game saw them ship five at Crystal Palace, and it’s no surprise to hear they have the worst away record in the league; with one win and five defeats from seven. They’ve managed just three goals in that run while conceding 18, and will seriously need to lift their performance levels if they are to leave North London with anything this weekend. Last week’s win may well provide just the lift they need, however given their away record; it looks worth backing a home victory here.

Real Madrid to beat Villarreal

Real Madrid have certainly recovered from their humiliating defeat to Barcelona three weeks ago, winning every game since and scoring a hatful of goals in the process. Last weekend’s 4-1 triumph over Getafe was followed by an 8-0 demolition of Malmo in the Champions League, and they will be looking to keep their title hopes on track with another three points this weekend. Sat third in the table; four points of Barca, they know they can’t afford to slip much further behind their rivals and so will arrive at Villarreal in search of another victory. They’ve lost just once on the road so far, with four wins and two draws from seven matches, and boast the meanest defence along with the most number of goals with six and 16 respectively.

Their opponents will certainly prove no pushovers here, with Villarreal heading into this one just two places below their opponents after a 2-1 win over Vallecano last weekend. They’ve won five of their seven home matches so far; with just one defeat and could prove tricky opponents for Ronaldo and co. However Real represent a clear step up in class, and will no doubt expect to leave here with the win in a bid to maintain their title push. With Rafa Benitez’s side in such free scoring form, and with a defence that offers very little, it could be foolish to back against them here, and they should have enough quality come out on top once more.

Napoli to beat Roma

Despite being separated by just one place in the Serie A table, there are certainly contrasting moods surrounding Napoli and Roma in the run up to their meeting on Sunday. There is genuine optimism concerning Napoli, even despite their surprise defeat to Bologna last weekend, that this could finally be their year in concern of the title. Just two points off top spot, and with Gonzalo Higuain in such red-hot form, Napoli have emerged as genuine title contenders after nine wins from their opening 15 games. They have the best home form in the league with six wins and a draw from seven matches, which include victories over Juventus, Inter Milan and Fiorentina, and they will be hopeful of adding Roma to their list of scalps this weekend.

All is not well with the visitors who have turned out some disappointing results of late. A hammering by Barcelona in the Champions League was followed by a nervy draw with Bate in their final group match, which saw them qualify with a record-equalling low of six points. They’ve failed to win in their last three league games, and were denied victory late on last week at Torino when conceding a last gasp penalty. There’s plenty of pressure on the manager, and with injuries to some key players, as well as their main man Edin Dzeko struggling for goals, they could be in for a rough ride against a Napoli side who will take plenty of pleasure in adding to their woes here. There may only be three points separating them in the table, but defeat here could leave Roma all but out of the title race as we approach Christmas.
