Sheffield Wednesday v Derby County predictions and betting tips for this weekend’s Championship fixture on Sunday 6th December.
There’s just the one televised Championship match on Sunday as Sheffield Wednesday look to bounce back from their Capital One Cup disappointment by hosting Derby, we’ve got a preview and betting tips.
Sheffield Wednesday v Derby Predictions
Derby are on a very impressive run and are showing signs of why so many people backed them ante-post for promotion. After feeling the early season pressure, Paul Clement has turned things around and Friday night’s 2-0 victory over Hull was a real statement to the rest of the league.
They held their resolve defensively once more, keeping another clean sheet, making it nine for the season. That brings them level with Hull, Middlesbrough and somewhat surprisingly Preston.
They also possess plenty of firepower going forward, with options all over the field. Jacob Butterfield was the hero on Humberside, twice popping up unmarked on the edge of the area and converting.
This is a difficult challenge awaiting them as a trip to Hillsborough is never easy, especially not when the hosts have only lost once all season, back in August. Middlesbrough arrived in South Yorkshire and took all three points, but apart from that, the Owls have been decent in front of their own fans.
The significant result in their recent sequence of unbeaten home matches appears to be a 0-0 draw with Brighton, which Ricardo Carvalhal will be extremely pleased with. The Seagulls are unbeaten this season and stopping them scoring showed Wednesday are able to shut out opponents who are full of confidence.
Derby somewhat surprisingly lost their grudge match with Nottingham Forest last month, that was on the road (although they didn’t have far to go) and they also drew 0-0 with Blackburn at Ewood Park. They have showed they are slightly vulnerable on the road and I think if teams can get in the face of the Rams, it can throw their game plan out of the window.
Wednesday can do something similar to Forest and their Portuguese coach will have done his homework on their opponents. I think he can help stop the threat of Derby, despite their numerous danger men.

I’m always impressed by a side that has the ability to keep a clean sheet and Derby have cut out their defensive mistakes which started to appear towards the end of last season. Richard Keogh is an International and he is showing his leadership qualities at the back. Sheffield Wednesday have conceded just a single goal in their last three home matches and have kept two clean sheets in their last three matches at Hillsborough. They have plenty of defensive qualities themselves after reshaping their backline over the summer with the signing of Tom Lees. I think there will be some solid defending on show.
The second of our Sheffield Wednesday v Derby County betting tips is for the Under 2.5 goals. It can backed at 4/6 with William Hill.

There are so many possible scorers to choose from in this game. If Derby are going to concede, then it is likely to be down to the magic of Fernando Forrestieri, he is enjoying a fairly lucrative spell at the club. He helped create a couple of the goals against Huddersfield and this time, he could go from provider to scorer.
The third of our Sheffield Wednesday v Derby County predictions is for Fernando Forrestieri to score anytime. He can be backed at 11/4 with Paddy Power.
