World Cup 2014 Tips for Group F: Straight Forecast Predictions

World Cup Group F winner betting tips and predictions from the group containing Argentina, Nigeria, Bosnia and Iran.

Although not one of the most exciting groups in the competition, Group F has the potential to be an absolute goal fest with second place up for grabs. With Argentina the clear favourites to win the group and one for the whole tournament, second place is going to be hotly contested and it will come down to the winner of the Nigeria/Bosnia game.

I can only see one winner of Group F for my betting tip, Argentina. Used to the extreme heat of South America, the weather conditions for them should not be a problem. Argentina have already beaten Bosnia in a friendly with Aguero scoring a double. Argentina boast one of the most potent strike forces in the tournament with the likes of Higuain, Aguero and Lavezzi not to forget one of the best players of his current generation and in world football, Lionel Messi. Messi has yet to live up to standards in the World Cup with only one goal to his name, and that came back in 2006 against Serbia and Montenegro. Nevertheless, Messi’s improved record in recent internationals suggests he may be ready to dominate the World Cup, and enhance his position as the greatest player of all time. 

A key player for Argentina in this World Cup is midfielder Angel Di Maria, who had a terrific season for Real Madrid with his discipline and breaks from midfield being a catalyst for success. His work ethic could be important in the latter rounds of the tournament. However, there are some defensive frailties at the back for Argentina which can be exploited on the counter.

The race for second place looks like a two horse race between Nigeria and Bosnia, although I would currently edge towards Nigeria. Nigeria has strength in their team all across the pitch, with goals in the team coming from Emmanuel Emenike and Ahmed Musa. With players such as John Obi-Mikel anchoring the midfield and a goalkeeper in scintillating form this season in Victor Enyeama, Nigeria look like they could have the edge for that all important second place in our World Cup predictions. With Nigeria not facing Argentina until the final group game, it gives them the chance to capitalise with three points against Iran and grab the initiative against the Bosnians, who face the feared Argentinian strike force in the first game.

Bosnia’s main reliance is on Edin Dzeko who was in superb form for Manchester City. Starting the season as fourth choice, he became an important part of the Pellegrini era and will be coming up against his strike partner Aguero in the first game of Group F. As well as Dzeko they have creativity in the midfield with Miralem Pjanic looking to dictate the play. The goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will be an important player for Bosnia too. Linked with a summer move away from Stoke City, Begovic will be looking to heighten his position as one of the most sought after goalkeepers. The most important game will be the second group game between Nigeria and Bosnia with the winner installing themselves as favourites for that second place. It will all depend on which team can create that clear cut chance for the strikers to finish.

Bringing up the rear of the group looks like it will be Iran under the stewardship of Carlos Queiroz. With much of the squad based in Iran, Queiroz could look to employ defensive tactics and make things difficult for the others to break down and frustrate the other teams and look to nick a goal on the break. However the array of talent from the other teams should see them able to break down Iran’s defence and leave them claiming the wooden spoon of the group.
