Spain v Ukraine preview and football betting tips for the International Euro 2016 qualifying match on Friday 27th March 2015.
Group C in Euro 2016 qualifying looked reasonably straightforward when the draw was made. Spain would dominate the group and leave Macedonia, Slovakia and Ukraine scrapping for the remaining qualification berth(s).
But Miroslav Stoch’s late winner in Žilina in October has made the group wholly competitive; Slovakia are now three points clear of both Spain and Ukraine, who meet on Friday in Seville. The expansion of the finals tournament to 24 teams means that these three teams are very likely to get at least a play-off berth anyway, but nobody will want to go to Oslo or Moscow needing a result. Automatic qualification is sweat-free.
Spain v Ukraine Betting Preview
The days of Spain being invincible are on hiatus. They’ve lost five of their last nine matches, going back to RVP’s flying header and all that. And, hey, guess what, they play the Netherlands on Tuesday in a friendly that’s bound to draw viewers on both sides hoping for revenge or a repeat. But Spain can’t afford to look forward when they play a Ukraine side who’ve been largely impressive of late. No fewer than fourteen members of their squad play for Dynamo Kiev or Dnipro, both of whom are in the quarter finals of the Europa League. Ukraine captain Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, of Zenit, the only member of the squad to play for a club outside Ukraine, will also play in the Europa League quarter finals, in Seville no less. He’ll be looking to turn the Andalusian city into a temporary home ground, starting here.
However, while Zenit will have a fighting chance, I’m afraid Ukraine won’t. The Spanish squad has a fresh look about it, with three uncapped players included. Among these is the young Málaga striker Juanmi, who’s come in to replace the injured Diego Costa. Midfielder Vitolo may also make a substitute appearance, not least because he’d be playing on his home pitch. Ukraine’s defensive record is admittedly very impressive (fourteen clean sheets from their last seventeen matches) but they’ve not acquitted themselves well away from home against decent teams.
For our Spain v Ukraine betting tips, instead of taking Spain on the -1 handicap, get slightly better odds by opting for the Anytime Correct Score of 2-0 at 21/20 with Betfair.
In the absence of Costa, Álvaro Morata should start and, having been outscored by Tevez at Juventus all season, getting a lead role should increase the likelihood of him scoring.
Morata to score anytime is 21/20 with Bet365 and is our second football tip for Friday’s Spain v Ukraine Euro 2016 qualifying match.
