Wales take on Portugal in the first semi-final of Euro 2016 at the Parc Olympique Lyonnnais and our tipster has picked a correct score prediction for the match.
Who’d have thought these two would be meeting each other in the Euro 2016 Semi-Finals? And in such different manners as well. Wales have been one of the biggest successes of the tournament so far, 80/1 outsiders before the tournament began, many didn’t even give them a chance of getting out of their group, let alone get past Northern Ireland, and even more impressively against Belgium.
Portugal v Wales Betting Preview
Myself included, I thought Belgium would be a step too far for Wales, and after conceding an early goal it looked like being a long night in store for the welsh squad, however their tenacity, bravery and quality shone through in the end after winning 3-1. It’s easy to dismiss them as a one-man team, but each one of their players have been at their best and they thoroughly deserve to be where they are, with a lot of credit going to Chris Coleman, who’s instilled a belief system in the team.
If we look at their opponents Portugal, they’ve had a much rockier trip to the semi-final stage. They still remain winless in 90 minutes in the tournament, after scraping out of their group with three draws with Austria, Hungary and Iceland. They got through with a late winner in extra time in what has comfortably been the worst match of the tournament against Croatia – a game where the first shot on target was in the 117th minute from Ronaldo, which was parried into the path of Quaresma to score.

After their last 16 win against Croatia came Poland, another tie which couldn’t be split even after extra time. This time Ricardo Quaresma scored the winning penalty to send Portugal into the tie against Wales. It shows two things with this Portugal side, one being that they’re by no means unbeatable as they’ve not managed to out play any of their opponents, but the other being that they’re a very tough group of players with a lot of bottle – something previous Portuguese teams have missed.
Wales have been in games with plenty of goals in this tournament, and Portugal tend to have been involved in tight and low scoring affair, apart from the anomaly 3-3 draw with Hungary of course. It’s very much being pitted as Bale v Ronaldo but it is much more complex than that. Wales have Ben Davies and Aaron Ramsey missing through suspension who are huge misses. I can see this being another cagey affair, one because neither team will play as expansive as they have done in the past, and also because of what is at stake – a European Championship Final. This would be Wales first ever International tournament final, and Portugal’s first since losing the 2004 Euros to Greece.
Correct Score Prediction
I can see both teams scoring for my correct score tip, as both teams have too much going forward to not have enough chances over 90 minutes, but I can’t see either team winning the match in normal time. All the signs point to a 1-1 draw for me, as Wales will definitely lose something going forward missing Aaron Ramsey, and Portugal struggling to find too much space behind a solid Wales defence. Bet Victor are offering a very tempting 6/1 for the 1-1 correct score.
