Until France hammered Iceland, Wales were rivalling them for goals scored in this competition. They’ve performed tremendously this summer and not even the most optimistic, glass half full Welsh fan could have envisaged them reaching this stage. They’ve done it in style as well – they haven’t simply sat back and absorbed pressure before hitting their opponents on the break. They’ve played decent football along the way.
Gareth Bale is the world’s most expensive player and his goals gave them a positive start to this competition, but he hasn’t netted in his last two. The Real Madrid star unsurprisingly starts top of the goalscorer markets.

Portugal have been somewhat of a let-down in this year’s competition and have still failed to kill off a team in the regulation 90 minutes. They’ve been a little lucky at times and have benefitted from the revised format, but there is still plenty of danger in Ricardo Santos’ side.
Ronaldo has been hit and miss, excelling against Hungary, but being fairly anonymous in other matches. A Ben Davies-less Welsh defence will be marshalling him closely. He will sit alongside his Real Madrid teammate as the favourite to net during this game in the Wales v Portugal betting odds.

Gareth Bale didn’t get many opportunities against Belgium. They shackled him well and he wasn’t afforded much space. Pepe will be facing his teammate here and will have plenty of plans in place to stop him. Pepe will almost certainly be unfamiliar with Hal Robson Kanu. The former Reading man won’t be short of suitors this summer and will be looking to enhance his reputation even further here.
