West Ham vs Leicester – West Ham Win

The biggest surprise in the Premier League last weekend, was West Ham’s 2-0 away victory at Arsenal. Leicester also performed above expectations when beating Sunderland 4-2 and although Claudio Ranieri’s side did look very dangerous going forward, I think Sunderland’s overall ineptitude was the key factor behind this result. West Ham are usually formidable at home. They will be in very high spirits and the crowd will be too, I’m expecting a comfortable home victory.

Port Vale vs Gillingham – Gillingham Win

Gillingham were another of the week’s surprise packages, trouncing title favourites Sheffield United 4-0. Since Justin Edinburgh took over midway through last season, the Gills have only lost four games out of 19. They followed up the weekend win with another victory at Plymouth in the League Cup, coming from behind to win 2-1. Port Vale ended last season badly and won just one of their last ten home games. A midweek home victory over Burnley in the cup will definitely have given them encouragement, but Gillingham are on a roll and will be too strong for them.
 

Crawley vs Wimbledon – Crawley Win.

AFC Wimbledon didn’t win any of their final eight games last season, and have lost both matches they have played in the last week. Crawley haven’t won yet this season either, but earned a good point at Oxford last Saturday, whilst bedding in a number of new players that Manager Mark Yates has signed since the team was relegated in May. They will look at that result as a source of encouragement, and I think they will take all three points in their first home game of the season.
