Sunday’s Football Accumulator Tips
West Ham to beat Blackburn – 13/10
West Ham travel to Blackburn on Sunday with a genuine chance of going far in this year’s FA Cup. A late extra time winner in the fourth round replay with Liverpool, means they now face Championship opposition for a place in the sixth round, and the Hammers have made this competition one of their priorities this season. The visitors sit seventh in the Premier League, just one point off fifth place, and in with a serious shout of a European place despite recording just one win in five. Blackburn however are struggling at the wrong end of the Championship, and recorded their first win in two months when defeating Fulham in midweek. They’ve picked up just seven wins from 30 in the league, with just four wins at home. Down in 18th place, they are however eight points from safety and so can give this tie their full attention as they look to cause an upset. It does look a tough ask on the other hand, and given the difference in class between the two sides at present; the Premier League side have to be the selection for the first leg of our accumulator tip.
Chelsea to beat Manchester City – 10/11
Chelsea welcome Man City to Stamford Bridge this weekend in the pick of the fifth round FA Cup ties that sees last season’s top two go head to head. Chelsea continue to show positive signs of recovery since their dreadful start to the season, and suffered their first defeat under Gus Hiddink; narrowly losing out to PSG in midweek. However, they put in a good performance that will give them plenty of hope for the return leg, and can now turn their attention to progressing in this competition. Last weekend’s 5-1 win over Newcastle followed a draw with Manchester United and a win at the Emirates, and on that form they will certainly fancy their chances against an out of sorts City side. The visitors have suffered two crucial home defeats in as many weeks which has put a huge dent in their title hopes, losing out to Leicester and Spurs. They’ve won just two of their last five, possibly distracted since the news broke that Pep Guardiola will be taking over in the summer, and have put in two very poor performances in their latest defeats. They will certainly need to improve here if they are to go into the hat for the next round, but with the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie with Dynamo Kiev on the horizon; they may well have one eye on that. It remains to be seen how strong a side they put out here, but on current form it could be worth backing the home team here.
Real Madrid to beat Malaga – 4/6
Real Madrid travel to Malaga this weekend looking to maintain their slim hopes of catching Barcelona at the top of La Liga, and know nothing less than a win will do with a seven-point gap separating the two sides. The visitors sit third in the table; with their city rivals Atletico in second, but have been on a decent run of form of late thanks to four wins and a draw in their last five. Following an impressive win in Rome on Wednesday, they will be confident of picking up another three points here; however, have only managed five wins on the road this term, and with four draws and two defeats along the way; they know this must improve. Malaga find themselves in 11th place, with eight wins and 10 defeats from 24 matches. Last week’s 1-0 defeat at Villarreal was their third in the last five matches, which have all come against teams in the top five; a stat that doesn’t bode well coming into this one. They’ve been decent at home as of late, winning three and losing just one of their last five, however given the step up in opposition here, it’s likely that form will be dented. Given their struggles against the top teams this season, and the fact it’s a must win for Madrid; the visitors have to be the accumulator selection in this one.
