Arsenal to beat Bournemouth

 

Arsenal faced a severe reality check on Saturday just days after beating title favourites Manchester City, as they suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Southampton with the critics once again out in full force. It’s vital for their title hopes that they can put that result behind them on Monday when they host Bournemouth, a result that would however take them top for a short while at least. The Gunners have been strong at home, unbeaten since their opening day defeat to West Ham, with five wins and two draws in their last seven and should be overcoming Bournemouth if they are to have realistic hopes of claiming the title.

 

The visitors are on a great run of form themselves, and have shown they have a real chance at staying in the division, having gone five unbeaten which includes wins over Chelsea and Manchester United. They have suffered five defeats on the road however, and providing Arsenal don’t throw in a repeat of Boxing Day, the Gunners should prove too strong for them here.

 

Watford and Tottenham to draw

 

Watford continue to be prove one of the surprise packages of the season, and claimed another impressive result by drawing at Stamford Bridge. They host Tottenham on Monday, a fixture that involves two of the league’s in form sides. The hosts haven’t lost in over a month, and before Saturday’s draw at Chelsea had picked up four straight wins. Their last home fixture saw them comprehensively beat Liverpool 3-0, highlighting just how much of a threat they can be, particularly with their two in form strikers.

 

Spurs have quietly gone about their business of late, and sit fourth; with real aspirations of qualifying for the Champions League having lost just twice this season. They are unbeaten on the road since the opening day of the season, although have drawn half of their eight away fixtures. Given the form of both teams, and the fact this one looks hard to call; it wouldn’t be a surprise were we to see another draw here and that goes in the accumulator tip.

 

Gillingham to beat Colchester

 

An impressive win at Swindon on Boxing Day meant Gillingham maintained third spot in League One, and sit just a point off the automatic promotion spots. They look to have a great chance of keeping up with the pace at the top when they host bottom side Colchester. The Gills have won eight and lost just one of their 11 home matches, which came last time out against promotion rivals Burton.

 

But they have a great chance of making up for that defeat against a Colchester side facing another relegation battle. The visitors have the worst away record in the league, losing eight of 11 games, including five straight defeats. They’re on a retched run of form and it’s hard to see their fortunes changing here.

 

Burton to beat Swindon

 

Burton continued their unbeaten run on Boxing Day, with an entertaining 3-3 draw with Doncaster to leave them level on points at the top of League One. Prior to that they had won their last four, meaning they are one of the form sides in the division, and they will be looking to maintain their promotion push when they host Swindon. The home side have an impressive record on their own patch, losing just once and winning seven of their 11 games so far.

 

The visitors saw their winning run come to end on Saturday as they lost out to Gillingham, and despite a recent upturn in form, they still find themselves in 15th place in the table. They’ve lost almost half of their fixtures this term, failing to replicate the form that saw them reach the playoff final last year. They’ve managed just four wins on the road, and will face a tricky task here given their opponents lofty league position.
