Free football betting tips for Sunday’s Premier League match between Everton and Leicester City with a preview and prediction.
I waited until after Everton’s match in Switzerland to write this article, but I’ve now realised I may as well not have done. Because Everton have proven themselves to be rather sleepy on post-European Sundays. The one exception was a 3-1 win at Burnley after an insipid 0-0 draw at Lille in October, the shortest of their excursions. Four points from six Sunday games in 2014/15 is unimpressive.
Everton’s emphatic 4-1 success owed much to a slick passing game on a synthetic pitch. It remains to be seen whether they can sufficiently adapt their game to grass. One win in nine in the league has seen them slip to within five points of the drop and forthcoming trips to Arsenal and Stoke may well yield more misery. This is a must-win fixture for Martinez’s men.
Unfortunately it’s also a must-win fixture for Leicester. The first of many. A brief New Year revival has faded into four consecutive league defeats and they’re now five points from safety. If there’s a level of hope they can take from this season, it’s that they’ve never been thrashed. They’ve only conceded three times on four occasions, and they’ve scored in each of those matches. Hell, they managed five in reply against Man United!
So what are the football betting tips for this confrontation? Both sides need points, but Leicester’s need is far greater and they’ll be more expansive. Lukaku’s hat trick on Thursday largely came from beating the Young Boys’ offside trap and I can see a similar picture emerging here. However, becoming re-accustomed to grass may take a while, particularly the weight of through balls. A wasteful first half feels likely – you can back a goalless first half at 2/1 with William Hill. Alternatively, if you want to have 1-1 on your 0-0 half-time biscuit, a draw at half-time is 5/4 with Betway.
Everton should really prevail, though, when all is said and done. A scrappy but effective 1-0 home win will be enough and that is our correct score prediction for Everton v Leicester. Three points is all that matters now. And they have an on-form striker; not many players score a hat trick away from home in Europe. Romelu Lukaku may well have a say here too; back him to be the toast of Goodison Park. Lukaku to score first or last is 21/10 with William Hill.
