The Republic of Ireland have been dealt another tough hand at a European Championships, this time in Group E with Belgium, Italy and Sweden.
Italy were the pot 2 team everybody wanted to avoid in the Euro 2016 draw but in truth all four of these teams won’t be happy with the draw, we could see some close matches in this group.
Euro 2016 Group E: Belgium
Belgium have been tipped for the past four years as people began to notice their young squad coming into it’s best form. People tend to think this squad is full of world class players, but the team lacks cohesion. The likes of Edin Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku should strike fear into any defence at Euro 2016. Can they live up to their hype?
Euro 2016 Group E: Italy
The Italians always come good at major tournaments and Antonio Conte will want to go out on a high. Italy were unbeaten in qualifying, largely thanks to the vast experience of Boucci, Chiellini, Barzagli and Buffon at the back. Going forward they are not as impressive and could struggle for goals. Andrea Pirlo will once again be the creative hub, but who will score the goals?
Euro 2016 Group E: Sweden
Sweden will all be about Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Euro 2016 and somewhat rightly so. He scored 11 goals in qualifying including three over Denmark in the play-off. Aside from Ibrahimovic there are no real stars and the Republic of Ireland vs Sweden fixture could be vital in deciding who has a chance of qualifying from this difficult group.
Euro 2016 Group E: Republic of Ireland
Ireland will bring some of the best fans at Euro 2016, but their team is not without a chance in this group. They proved in their qualifying group that they’re capable of an upset and if they can take something against Italy or Belgium following a win in the opening Rep or Ireland vs Sweden fixture they’d be in a decent position to make it to the last 16.
