After just about securing their Premier League status by the skin of their teeth once again last season, Sunderland fans will certainly be hoping for an upturn in fortunes throughout the upcoming 2016/17 campaign – with former Everton and Manchester United boss, David Moyes, tasked with leading the charge at the Stadium of Light next season.
The 53-year-old Scottish tactician has rather large boots to fill – both metaphorically and physically – after Big Sam Allardyce boldly saved the Black Cats from the drop last term. But will his top-flight Premier League experience ultimately be enough to turn Sunderland into more than just mere relegation dodgers with every passing season?
Well, most Black Cats fans seem rather made up with the recent appointment within the grand scheme of things…
Happy with the Moyes appointment ideal manager to stabilise the club. Now let's buy some players #safc

…even if Sunderland have indeed failed to make much of a mark upon the transfer scene as of yet this summer…
Real talk:
How bothered are you by our lack of signings? #SAFC— e-Sunderland (@e_sunderland) 28 July 2016
There have nonetheless been those who somehow expect Moyes to fail among the English top-flight rather dramatically next season however…
Moyes to Sunderland is gonna be a bigger flop than Memphis at united

…especially as the Scotsman's reputation was seemingly dealt one or two major blows during his time as Manchester United boss…
Kinda hope Moyes does well at Sunderland. Poor guy had no clue at United

Yet because David Moyes certainly held his own throughout his previous managerial spell at Goodison Park, who is to say that he can’t successfully redefine his career at Sunderland this time around?
Moyes is back in EPL. Sunderland just appointed him. I'm sure he will do well there. He wasn't a flop a Everton because its a small club.

In fact, most people seem to think that Moyes and the Black Cats arguably represent the perfect combination for one another…
Think David Moyes will do well at Sunderland. In his last 2 jobs he's been like a fish up a tree. Back in his comfort zone now.

…and as Sunderland could really look beyond the threat of relegation earlier than usual with the 53-year-old tactician at the helm…
happy with Moyes think he was best choice out there for us…hopefully no relegation battles this season #premierleague#redandwhitearmy

…perhaps the 2016/17 domestic campaign honestly could prove the year in which the Black Cats finally start to show some real, sustained quality among the Premier League!
Sunderland didn't mess about did they <1 day after Allardyce departs Moyes is in. A shrewd appointment IMO think he'll do well up there.
