Manchester City v Middlesbrough – City to win BTTS
We’re kicking things off this weekend’s football tip in the Premier League as Manchester City take on Middlesbrough at 3pm. Pep Guardiola finally looks to have got over his worst spell as a manager after his side thrashed West Brom last weekend and produced a stunning win against an injury-hit Barcelona side on Tuesday night. Domestically, City still remain top of the Premier League – albeit in a three-way tie with both Arsenal and in-form Liverpool – and have now recorded five BTTS wins from their seven victories to date this season. Opponents ‘Boro have had an inconsistent start to life in the top flight but do head into this weekend’s clash off the back of a fine victory at home to Bournemouth last week. Aitor Karanka’s side might not be the most prolific in the terms of goals but they have a lot of pace in their side and I fancy them to cause City a few problems on the counter attack in this one. With this in mind, back the hosts to win with both teams finding the net.
Celtic v Inverness – Celtic to win BTTS
Our second choice takes us to the Scottish Premiership as runaway leaders Celtic host Inverness at 3pm. Brendon Rodgers side are absolutely flying in the league at the moment, holding a nine point lead over second-placed Rangers and even having the added comfort of a game in hand as well. However, the only occasion Celtic have dropped points this season was on their trip to Inverness where they were held to a 2-2 draw, and I think the visitors could be good for a goal or two again this weekend. Caley Thistle are currently the highest ranked team in the Scottish Premiership for BTTS results at 75%, they also have the second highest goals tally in the league behind Celtic, and have scored in their last four straight away games. Based on all these statistics, The Bhoys look a good bet for a BTTS win here.
PEC Zwolle v Roda – Zwolle to win BTTS
The anchor leg this Saturday features a trip to the Dutch Eredivisie as PEC Zwolle take on Roda JC at the slightly later time of 19:45pm. Upon first glance this selection may look slightly obscure, but the hosts have caught my eye over the last few weeks after a number of high scoring games. Although Zwolle started the campaign in woeful fashion, taking only two points from their opening seven matches, they have now taken ten points from their last four games and recorded three BTTS results in the process. Considering their excellent recent form, opponents this weekend couldn’t come much easier as bottom of the table Roda JC roll into town. The visitors have managed just the one win once all season long and have only scored a paltry five goals in their eleven games so far this year. Although these stats are hardly encouraging to say the least, Roda have tended to park the bus against the better teams in the league, but may fancy their chances against a PEC side that has conceded in every home game this season and also has the joint-worst defensive record in the whole division as well. Therefore, I think there is more than enough to suggest giving Zwolle the nod for a BTTS win this weekend.
