Newcastle vs Aston Villa Betting Tips and Predictions

Football betting tips for the Newcastle United vs Aston Villa match in the Premier League on Sunday 23rd February.

It was looking so good for Newcastle this season, but the wheels have fallen off since Christmas and especially with the loss of playmaker Johan Cabaye to PSG.  There are reports that the next match could be Alan Pardew’s last after a wretched run of form; five consecutive defeats at St. James Park, while the last three games have seen no goals scored and 10 conceded.

As for Villa, they aren’t in a desperate situation, but they’re not flying either.  The lack of an attacking plan at Villa Park has led to most of their defeats, and they’re very reliant on catching teams on the counter attack.

That’s why this game could be tailor-made for them, with a baying home crowd urging Newcastle to attack.  The chances will be there for Villa, and that’s why I think they will take the points at 29/10 with Bet365, they could make up our first football betting tip for the match.

The good news for both teams is that some key players are returning from injury.  Fabricio Coloccini and Chiek Tiote are recovered and Loic Remy is back from his suspension.  They are desperately needed for leadership and in Remy’s case, being the only consistent goalscorer in the squad.

However, Villa also have a boost with Gabby Agbonlahor and Ron Vlaar returning, with the former essential to Villa’s plan.  They have lost just four times on the road this season, as good a record as Liverpool, and Agbonlahor’s pace is a big reason why.

While I fancy Villa for the win, I do expect Newcastle to finally score.  Both teams to notch is at 5/6, but let’s add a Villa win to that and we’ll get 13/2 for our main Newcastle vs Aston Villa betting tip.  As for goalscorers, Remy is the obvious candidate (8/5) but keep an eye out for Hatem Ben Arfa (3/1) who has the ability to tie a defence up in knots, and has scored in each of the two games he has played against Aston Villa.

As for Villa, I expect the Toon defence to do a decent job on Christian Benteke, as they do have the physical strength to match him.  Where they will struggle is against pace and cunning, so have a look at Agbonlahor (16/5) or Andreas Weimann (33/10) to get on the scoresheet and condemn Newcastle to another defeat that will have the natives calling for managerial change.
