Southampton vs Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Southampton vs Chelsea predictions and football betting tips for this weekend’s Premier League Super Sunday match with an anytime goalscorer bet and the best odds.

EFL cup quarter finalists Southampton face Chelsea on Super Sunday and this promises to be an exciting game with both sides in good form at the moment. Here are some tips and predictions for the game live on Sky Sports.

Southampton struggled at the start of the season with only two points in their opening four games but since then they have been unbeaten in the league and are currently in eighth place in the Premier League. They are also in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages for the Europa League and defeated Sunderland in midweek to book their place in the quarter finals of the EFL cup. Overall it’s been a fantastic start to the season for Saints fans and no matter who the manager is they seem to be going in the right direction as a club. Club record signing Sofiane Boufal scored a wonderful goal in midweek and will be hoping to make an impact in the Premier League soon but with Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond in such good form I doubt he’ll make the starting eleven on Sunday.  As for Chelsea, it’s been an up and down week for them after demolishing Manchester United last Sunday but they got knocked out of the EFL cup to West-ham on Wednesday and this was a disappointment for the fans as they now have only two competitions to concentrate on and every fan loves a cup run. They did rest key players like Diego Costa and Eden Hazard at the Olympic Stadium and they will be fresh for the game on Sunday and they will need to be to try and break down the stern Southampton defence.

Southampton vs Chelsea Predictions

I think this will be a cracking Super Sunday match with both sides in really good form. With this being said I think there will be goals and with both sides full of confidence I think both teams will score. This is odds on, so for the sake of another goal I think that both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is a very good bet at Coral for my first Southampton vs Chelsea betting tip. This happened in both matches these sides played last season and you can get odds of 13/10 at Coral.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals – 13/10 with Coral.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

My second Southampton vs Chelsea prediction is going to be in the anytime goal scorer market. I have tried to steer away from the obvious candidates and try and find some value and I think that Virgil Van Dijk is a great price. He is yet to open his account this season but he is always a threat at set-pieces and has a fantastic scoring record for a centre-back. He’s bagged twenty-five goals so far in his career and I have a hunch that he will make it twenty-six here, he is 10/1 to score at anytime at Bet365.

Southampton v Chelsea Team News

Southampton will be without the services of ex Chelsea player Ryan Bertrand for the game as he recovers from injury, Jay Rodriguez and Shane Long are both doubts and it seems almost certain that Charlie Austin will start the game up front. As for Chelsea both Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic are out injured and John Terry will probably be on the bench after looking rusty on Wednesday night against West Ham.

Southampton vs Chelsea Head to Head

When these two sides met last year the away side won on both occasions, Chelsea won at St Mary’s thanks to a late goal from Branislav Ivanovic and Southampton comprehensively beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 3-1 earlier on in the season. Southampton away is one of the toughest Premier League games now for any away side and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will know that his Chelsea side will have to be at their best to win on Sunday.

Southampton vs Chelsea Betting Odds

Chelsea are slight favourites for this game and they are 11/8 with Ladbrokes to get the win. A draw is best priced 12/5 at Bet365 and if you fancy a home victory then head over to Betfred as they are offering 11/5 for a Saints win. Southampton drew 1-1 with Manchester City last weekend and this is the most popular correct score at 6/1 with William Hill but 2-2 offers more value to me at 15/1 with BetVictor. Finally Diego Costa heads up the first goal scorer market at 4/1 with most firms but in-form Nathan Redmond is a staggering 10/1 to score first with Paddy Power and this could be one for the Southampton fans.
