Although England hardly served to impress all that much against both Malta and Slovenia last time out upon the international stage, many ardent fans of the Three Lions have nonetheless been left impressed by the managerial credentials and composed demeanour of the man tasked with filling in for Big Sam Allardyce on a temporary basis.
Gareth Southgate – former Middlesbrough captain and ex-England U21 boss – has already brought a new air of confidence about the current Three Lions squad. His relationship with some of this country’s younger talents could prove vital at upcoming major international tournaments – and contrary to what some initially expected of the proposed ‘yes-man’ – Southgate has already seen fit to drop Wayne Rooney from the Three Lions fold in favour of a far more youthful approach.
Whilst some believe that Gareth Southgate does indeed deserve his fair crack at the whip when it comes to selecting Big Sam’s permanent successor in the England hot-seat…
I think Southgate is a good coach and deserves to be given a chance but I fear he may not get his opportunity. #SLOENG #threelions

…there are also those who have recently spoken against the 46-year-old Englishman being seriously considered for the job…

Yet whilst many have taken to Southgate’s recent decision to drop Wayne Rooney from the first team fold…
Southgate showing with his Rooney decision that he deserves the role. Next he should decide to start with Rashford instead of Sturridge

…not everyone has been left overly impressed by his tactical capabilities from the side-lines…
Southgate deserves credit for the way he conducts himself – it's a wretched situation for him. But tactically, he's lacking.

Although Gareth Southgate does admittedly have a few fans out there seemingly rooting for his cause…
There's also no magic solution. Southgate should be given time to do his job, well beyond the initial four game spell. There's nowt to lose.

…both matches against Malta and Slovenia ultimately left a lot to be desired…
One and only positive about tonight's match is that surely now Southgate will not be given the job permanently ?

…so in the end, there just has to be a manager with better credentials suited for the job out there somewhere!
Southgate got Middlesborough relegated and did very averagely with U21 side…yet people still think he should be given the job
