Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest Tip – Aston Villa win
Villa have spent around £51m bolstering their squad which is a huge investment by new chairman Tony Xia. He’s expecting a return from his investment and it would now be a surprise if they didn’t make a play for the top six. Jonathon Kodjia joins fellow striker Ross McCormack up top in a front pairing which should possess plenty of goals. Richie De Laet and James Chester arrive to add stability to the backline and Mile Jedinak will shield them. Forest’s away form has been poor so far this season and they recently lost 1-0 at Brentford. They’ve been scoring plenty of goals, but there is a slight doubt over the fitness of star man Britt Assombalonga and if he’s missing, it’s hard to see where the goals are going to come from. Nicklas Bendtner is short of match fitness whilst young Oliver Burke has moved on.
Go Ahead Eagles v Roda JC Tip – Draw
Neither of these sides has managed to collect three points in the Eredivisie this season and this one won’t be for the purists. Upon making their return to the top flight of Dutch football the G.A Eagles were hoping for a better return than 1 point from four games. They’ve scored twice and conceded 9 although they have faced Ajax already. Roda have become the draw specialists of the embryonic table with three draws from four so far. Their only defeat was a narrow one against Vitesse. They held Ajax to a 2-2 draw which was impressive and their most recent result was a goalless stalemate with Willem II. On the basis of results so far, Roda just edge it, but as they are away from home, the draw seems the likeliest play here.
New York Red Bulls v DC United Tip – New York Red Bulls win
DC United may as well have stayed in the big apple for 7 days as they face both NY clubs in the space of 9 days. They still struggle away from home despite this being one of their shortest trips. The Red Bulls have been sensational recently and they welcome Sacha Kljestan here, who was missing on Saturday night v Vancouver Whitecaps. Kljestan scored on International Duty and should be able to add some creativity to the midfield. Bradley Wright-Phillips continues to knock them in and he should be fit and ready for this. A few weeks back it finished 2-2 at DC and the hosts are far superior on their own patch. It might be another 1-0 win for Red Bulls, but they are marching towards the summit and they have Toronto FC and NYCFC in their sights.
Ostersunds v Helsingborg Tip – Ostersunds win
Off to Sweden where we are approaching the final stages of the Allsvenskan season. Helsingborg are fighting to stay afloat and avoid relegation to the Superettan. Ostersunds are perfectly safe with a very limited chance of challenging for the Europa League Play-Off spots. They are strong at home though and have won three of their last four here. They’ve lost just three times all season and will give as good as they’ve got in front of their own fans. Helsingborg have lost three of the last four away from home and although they will be scrapping away, they lack the necessary quality to pick up points on the road.
Stabaek v Rosenborg Tip – Rosenborg win
For once, Rosenborg come into a Sunday fixture with no midweek European adventures behind them. They still lead the way and look as though they can stretch the lead with this fixture. Stabaek are struggling the wrong end of the table and have won just one of their last five matches here. That was against fellow strugglers Aalesund. Roseborg beat them 3-2 when the sides met in May. There’s so much firepower in the leader’s side and they should score plenty here. They’ve hit seven goals in their last three league games picking up two wins and a draw. Stabaek have failed to score in three of their last five home games which is a really worrying stat and they’re unlikely to pull off a shock here.
