Tottenham showed signs of a hangover from last term in their 1-1 draw with Everton. Ross Barkley scored after just five minutes for the Toffees, and they really could have had the game won in the first half. Spurs rallied and claimed a point, before becoming the stronger side towards the end. After losing second place to Arsenal and with many of their players disappointing at Euro 2016 they were always going to struggle early on here. They’ve not added that much in the summer, but they’ve kept together their young squad from last season. This season they need to stop their trend of making slow starts.

 

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace slipped up at home to West Brom, despite dominating the game. The Eagles had plenty of possession and a lot of chances, they just couldn’t put any away. Selling Yannick Bolasie certainly won’t help them, that leaves them very light going forward. While they’ve been linked with big money moves for forwards, they’ve yet to get one signed. If Palace are avoid going backwards this season they really need a forward to get them goals. They’ve talked of having a big budget for signings, but they’ve actually made money this summer. It doesn’t seem like they’ll spend in time to get someone in before this trip but Benteke looks set to arrive.

 

Tottenham v Crystal Palace Predictions

 

Tottenham haven’t been scoring that much either, they traditionally make a poor start to the season. They didn’t win any of their first four matches last term, and only once in their first six did they manage to score more than a goal. Neither side look to be in scoring form, so we can’t see them producing a classic here. Their meeting here last season finished 1-0 to Spurs, and a similar result here wouldn’t be shocking. We’re backing under 2.5 goals in this clash, which is well priced at evens with Bet365.

Given how badly Palace are struggling for goals, we don’t see them denting this Spurs defence. Mauricio Pochettino may be missing Hugo Lloris in this one, but that’s unlikely to make a difference. Palace had 14 shots and 62% possession against West Brom, but they only managed four shots on target all game. It’s hard to see them improving on that away to Tottenham. Without finishers, the Eagles aren’t likely to make much of an impact on this game.
