Our opening selection on this weekend’s football tip is an Italian affair as Roma and Chievo go head to head in Serie A at 11:30am. The hosts have been in absolutely marvellous form over the last three months and their 3-2 victory away to Genoa last week took their unbeaten run to fifteen games during this period. Swindon v Shrewsbury – Swindon to win BTTS
The next tick on the coupon takes us to League One in England and the 12:30pm clash between Swindon and Shrewsbury. Although this match has all the hallmarks of a dead rubber, the BTTS stats between the two sides over the course of the season have been really encouraging. Swindon currently have the best record in the whole division for BTTS results at home with 73% of their matches finishing via that outcome. Shrewsbury have the second highest strike-rate for BTTS clashes away from home at 68%, and their last eleven games in a row have finished with both teams finding the net. Although it’s a tough one to call, Swindon have picked up decent results over the last three games and beat Shrewsbury earlier in the season as well. With this in mind, back them to win this with a BTTS result.
Utrecht v AZ Alkmaar – BTTS draw
Our anchor leg comes to us from the Dutch Eredivisie and a potentially high-scoring encounter between Utrecht and AZ Alkmaar. Similarly to the match above, both of these sides have overwhelming statistics that support a potential BTTS outcome. The hosts have the best record in the whole division for BTTS at 67% and seven of their last ten have finished with both teams finding the scoresheet. Opponents AZ are only a few percent behind in the BTTS charts, but their recent record has been absolutely phenomenal with their last six matches in a row all seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring. Although the visitors are in the better form, there has been very little to choose between these two sides over the course of this season and I can see this game finishing the same way it did earlier in the year – in a 2-2 draw.
