The Cherries are now unbeaten in four, grabbing 10 points from a possible 12, and having also grabbed 38 points from 30 games, they are also virtually certain to retain their position in the Premier League in their maiden season. Eddie Howe has seen his side beat 7th placed Southampton, as well as relegation threatened duo Newcastle and Swansea in recent weeks, but the prospect of facing a Spurs side chasing the title will prove an even bigger test of Bournemouth’s character.

 

Last time the two sides met back in October, Bournemouth got a warm welcome to Premier League life, being battered 5-1 by a rampant Spurs side in front of the South Coast side’s own fans. Ironically, 5-1 is the same scoreline that Spurs were beaten by Borussia Dortmund midweek, albeit on aggregate, as the North-London side’s hopes of European glory were put on hold for another season.

 

However, Mauricio Pochettino decided to rest a number of key players, especially in the first leg against Dortmund, and Spurs’ key men will be well rested for Sunday’s clash with Bournemouth. Spurs slipped up in their last outing in the Premier League, failing to turn over an Arsenal side who were reduced to ten-men with half an hour still left to play. The match ended 2-2 and left the door open for Leicester City to extend their lead at the top after a gritty 1-0 win against Newcastle on Monday.

 

With Leicester City looking bewilderingly unbeatable at the top of the League, all the pressure is on Spurs just to keep on winning and hope the Foxes slip up away to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
