Arsenal to beat Watford

Arsenal and Watford meet at the Emirates in the FA Cup quarter finals, with a place in the last four and a trip to Wembley at stake. This is familiar territory for the hosts, who are looking for their third FA Cup trophy in succession having lifted the famous trophy on the last two occasions. The Gunners put an end to a disappointing run of form with a vital late goal at White Hart Lane last weekend, and can use that as a confidence boost to get a victory here. The home side sit 10 places higher in the Premier League than their opponents, with a 15-point gap between the two, and following their 4-0 win over Hull in midweek, have shown that they mean business in this competition. The visitors are enjoying life back in the top flight and look to be heading to safety after winning promotion from the Championship last season, which will certainly be a great achievement. However, their form has dropped of late, losing three and winning just once in their last five matches. They’ve scored just once in this run, losing their last two matches by the odd goal to nil, and they will be desperate to avoid their season petering out with a cup exit here. However, given Arsenal’s love affair with this competition in recent seasons, it could be worth backing them to make it to Wembley once again with a win this weekend.

Tottenham to beat Aston Villa

Tottenham will be hoping to bounce back from a recent dip in form as they travel to Aston Villa this weekend, looking to get their title bid back on track. Spurs have gone two games without a win after defeat at Upton Park was followed by a frustrating draw with Arsenal, after letting a 2-1 lead slip late on to 10-men. A 3-0 defeat in Dortmund on Thursday has seemingly ended their Europa League challenge, and so all focus can now turn back to the Premier League, with a five-point deficit to make up on Leicester City, and they should be able to get back to winning ways at Villa Park. It’s just a matter of time before Villa’s relegation to the Championship is confirmed, as they sit nine points from safety having lost 19 of 29 this season. They’ve lost four on the bounce, and have shipped nine goals in their last two home matches, highlighting just how low confidence is and how bad performances have been. Their latest defeat came by four goals away at Manchester City, and Spurs have to fancy themselves here to rack up a few goals and seal an easy three points.

Real Madrid to beat Las Palmas

Real Madrid have little left to play for in La Liga having seemingly fallen out of the title race however will still be expected to gain victory when they visit Las Palmas this weekend. The Galacticos defeated Roma once again in midweek to reach the last eight of the Champions League, and will be looking to keep that momentum going with a third straight league win here. Madrid thrashed Celta Vigo 7-1 last weekend, and despite an inconsistent season away from home, are unbeaten in five on the road. Las Palmas meanwhile find themselves at the wrong end of the table, sitting in 15th position and just four points off the bottom three. They have however turned their form around in recent weeks, to record three successive wins and boost their chances of survival. Yet they have lost half of their 28 games this season, and their last two home defeats have been at the hands of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – the two sides above Real in the league. With the top three in La Liga at a different level to the rest of the league, it’s expected that Madrid will highlight that and show their superiority with a victory here.

Borussia Dortmund to beat Mainz

Dortmund host Mainz on Sunday, looking to continue their good run of form that has seen them move just five points off Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich. Their 0-0 draw last weekend was followed by a resounding 3-0 win over Spurs in midweek, and they look a decent bet to make it five wins from their last six to keep the pressure on the reigning champions. The hosts have conceded just once in their last five matches, and are the only side in the division to remain unbeaten at home, with 10 wins and two draws. Mainz are also enjoying a decent campaign themselves, and sit in fifth place prior to the weekend. Three defeats and two wins from their last five away games, included a famous win at Bayern last time out, but they were left frustrated last Sunday as they drew 0-0 at home to lowly Darmstadt; albeit with 10 men. They’ve lost just once in their last five, and so could well prove a difficult side to overcome, however given the form Dortmund are on, along with their firepower upfront, they should have enough to edge this clash.

Middlesbrough to beat Charlton

Two sides at opposite ends of the Championship meet this weekend, with Middlesbrough looking to maintain their promotion bid when they travel to Charlton. The visitors remain in the automatic promotion spots, four points off leaders Burnley, however have suffered two defeats from their last three and will be eager to get back on track here. Both of their latest defeats have come on the road, however they have accumulated a joint high of eight wins away from home this term, and should fancy their chances against a relegation threatened Charlton team. The home side sit second bottom, with just Bolton below them; and seven points from safety. They’ve managed just two wins from their last 10, losing five in that run; and even more damming; they’ve failed to win any of their last 10 at home. They look destined to be playing in League One next season, and Boro should be able to take full advantage by taking the three points here.
