With the sales of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph the club was always going to struggle unless they got their transfer business spot-on, and whilst Villa have shown a marginal improvement under Remi Garde, it's a far-cry from the miracle they needed upon his appointment six months ago.
Although Garde did steer his side through a reasonable run following the turn of the year, form has completely fallen away again and Villa have now lost their last three matches in row at an aggregate of 11-2. Needless to say, a trip to The Etihad against a Manchester City side also desperate for points his hardly likely to yield much more than an absolute thumping, but they can take some solace in the fact they held City to an – albeit fortunate – 0-0 draw earlier in the campaign.
