Guus Hiddink’s Chelsea team may well have stopped the rot of losing match after match, but they are still to find consistency in grinding out wins. Their defensive performances since the Dutchman took over are marginally better than when Mourinho was still in charge, but even in front of their home fans, The Blues are still shipping goals like there’s no tomorrow.

Chelsea may well have halted Manchester United in their tracks last time out, limiting the Red Devils to just one goal, but in their previous four games at Stamford Bridge they conceded three to Everton, as well as two to both West Brom and Watford, and a solitary goal to Sunderland in a 3-1 victory.

Last weekend saw the Magpies grind out a 1-0 win over a poor West Brom side, and this result was extremely significant given Newcastle’s precarious position just above the relegation zone, as well as their declining form.

 

An entertaining 3-3 draw with Man United, as well as an excellent 2-1 win over West Ham have been the only recent highlights for The Toon, and it seems that Newcastle seem to find their form when there is little expectation for them to get a result.

 

Given that Chelsea have played out five consecutive BTTS winners at Stamford Bridge, as well as Newcastle’s ability to strike on the counter-attack, I think this game will also see goals for both teams.
