Southampton have re-discovered their excellent form from last season in the last month. Impressive wins to nil against Watford, West Bromwich Albion and especially away at Manchester United, coupled with a 0-0 away at the Emirates against Arsenal in the midweek fixtures. Their defence has once again find their rhythm after four consecutive cleans sheets, and they will enter this game with West Ham in the highest of spirits.

 

West Ham on the other hand haven’t been doing too bad themselves! They’ve bounced back from a disappointing defeat away at Newcastle with an impressive home draw with Manchester City and then beating 10 man Aston Villa on Tuesday. They themselves will be looking up the table rather than down as they try and close the gap on the top four.

 

I do believe Southampton will win here, as the confidence they will have after taking four points from Manchester United and Arsenal will be sky high. There’s no value in the home win for me at just 8/11, so I wouldn’t recommend a bet on that particular market. My second betting tip for this match is for Aaron Cresswell to be shown a card. As good a left back as I think he is, he will be severely tested by the likes of Mane and Cedric Soares down the Southampton right hand side, and I don’t think he will get the support from Victor Moses when Victor is on the left as he will need. I think the trickery and pace could be too much to handle for the full 90 mins, so petty fouls may tot up to a yellow. He is 4/1 with Unibet to be shown a card.

 

My anytime goalscorer bet picks itself, I can’t really see past Charlie Austin. In his first match in front of the Southampton faithful, he will be keen to impress and get on the scoresheet.
