Although Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils remain far from a club in crisis at this particular stage in the season, let’s face it – Manchester United fans have ultimately had very little to shout about this campaign in terms of sheer entertainment out on the field at Old Trafford.
Yet now that the January transfer window is once again in full swing for all the hopeful teams competing among the Premier League this term, there may yet still be hope for the Man United faithful somewhere on the horizon. The Red Devils have traditionally proven rather big spenders on the transfer scene in recent years after all…
So then, with a large portion of the 2015/16 campaign still to be decided right in the here and now, just who do Manchester United fans really want to see sworn in at their club this January?
Well, although the winter transfer period isn’t usually known for producing a wide plethora of big-name signings across the board, some United fans are seemingly approaching this window with a fair amount of ambition in mind…
Man United should sign Bale asap before his transfer value increases severely and we end up having to pay an extra 30+ million
— Aaron (@GinjiKagawa) January 11, 2016
…with a selection of high profile Premier League targets also emerging on the agenda it seems…
Man United should sign Harry Kane, because he scores goals and is a passionate player @premierleague #plfanzone
— Saul Kamionsky (@Saul_Kamio29) January 5, 2016
But even in light of all the exciting transfer-fuelled hype this month, some Red Devils supporters seem to be looking backwards when it comes to evaluating potential winter signings at their club…
Think Man United should sign Vidic, he's loved at United and would add some experience to our defence
— Stu Routledge (@StuR1986) January 18, 2016
Certain voices within the Old Trafford faithful have nonetheless taken on a rather sarcastic approach this month…
Man United should look to sign this Tom Cleverley guy from Everton. Looks a good player and perfect replacement for Carrick
— Don D (@Dhanuu9) January 3, 2016
…whilst others remain just as serious as matters of the often competitive transfer market usually tend to be…
Man United should sign bale , stones & aubameyang! #mufc
— 19 (@HaSonChunkii) December 30, 2015
A few – perhaps less obvious – targets have nevertheless emerged in recent weeks however…
Man united should sign Arnatouvic. End of

…with a collection of other classic names seemingly doing the rounds once again…
I would love to see Ronaldo return to Man United… I was a huge fan of his back then …
— Dominican R-Kelly (@Dartherickson) December 3, 2015
A certain BBC pundit has taken a less than favourable stance towards Manchester United’s pulling power in the modern era though…
Mark Lawrenson: "It makes me laugh when they say they're going to sign Ronaldo or Bale. They wouldn't go and play for Man United."
— United Peoples TV (@UnitedPeoplesTV) January 18, 2016
…and maybe Lawro does actually have a point this time…
I swear Man United's social media pages treat Ronaldo like he's on loan ???? pic.twitter.com/Lk2TI0tNFG
— Tag (@TagNineFive) January 12, 2016
All in all, Manchester United risk falling behind the rest of their Premier League opposition if they fail to make some much needed headway sooner rather than later – yet even though Louis van Gaal would presumably love to splash the cash once again this January – perhaps United fans will have to wait until the summer to see some real transfer-related action take place at their club…
