Stoke City v Liverpool Betting Tips and Predictions

Premier League predictions and Stoke v Liverpool betting tips for Sunday’s second Sky Sports match from our tipster.

Liverpool face a trip to sunny Stoke for their opening match of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping for a better result than the 6-1 thrashing handed out by Mark Hughes’ men in their final game of the 14/15 season.

Premier League Predictions – Stoke v Livepool.

If Liverpool so much as concede the first goal against Stoke, just you wait for the fans to invent a chant about how much Liverpool miss their talismanic former captain. As much as opposition fans loved to hate Gerrard, his influence can never be over-estimated; summed up by the fact that, even in his absence, home and away fans alike will inevitably still be singing his name in some respect for many years to come.

The Reds’ summer signings have been a mixed bunch. They kicked off the window by nabbing James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan as their bargain basement Bosman signings. Milner and Ings will add depth to an average squad, but anyone expecting Bogdan to feature regularly for the Scousers must have missed the fact that the Hungarian keeper finished last season as the second choice stopper at 18th placed Championship side Bolton Wanderers.

On a more positive note, Liverpool have also acquired Nathaniel Clyne who impressed at Southampton last season. Roberto Firminho has been added and will provide much needed flair to a Liverpool attack that will miss the pace and trickery provided by the outgoing £49m man, Raheem Sterling.

In attack, Belgian striker Christian Benteke has been signed from Aston Villa for £32m and will don the famous number 9 shirt for Liverpool. He follows in the footsteps of Anfield greats such as Fowler and Rush to wear the shirt.

Stoke have been steadily improving under the leadership of Mark Hughes. The Potters have finished ninth for the past two campaigns and notched a club record 54 points last time out.  On home soil, Hughes’ men have shown that they can mix it with the big boys and pull off incredibly hard-fought wins against teams that, on paper at least, should be comfortably taking all three points.

Ibrahim Affellay joins ex-Barcelona striker Bojan as the second player to make the move from Catalonia to Stoke in recent years.

In addition to Dutch winger Affellay, Hughes has managed to persuade Shay Given, Jakob Haugaard, Joselu, Phillip Wollscheid as well as former Liverpool right back Glen Johnson to ditch their current clubs and make the move to the Potteries.

However drab the surroundings may be, Stoke’s fans are always up for the fight. I am predicting this match to be a real struggle for the Liverpool players.

Despite a contrast in off-season results, friendly results rarely correspond with competitive results, and as such the vast majority of these can be discounted.

All I know is, this is going to be tough for Liverpool. I think they will need time to blend their new players into the system and I simply cannot see them winning the match against Stoke.

Draw No Bet Prediction:

My first Stoke v Liverpool prediction is for a Stoke – draw no bet. If Stoke win, you will win the bet. If Stoke draw you will get your stake back. The best odds are with Bet Victor at 29/20, and I think that after the embarrassment of their 6-1 thrashing in the last game of last season, Liverpool will be happy just to avoid defeat against Hughes’ men.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals Betting Tip:

As I envisage this game in my mind, I just cannot see it being a high scoring affair. Both teams will want to kick off their campaigns by avoiding defeat and I think Stoke will field a particularly defensive line up to contain Liverpool and hit them on the break.

My second Stoke v Liverpool betting tip is for there to be under 2.5 goals with the best odds at 31/40 with Bet Victor.

Half-time/Full-time Prediction:

I think the match will be extremely tight throughout, and as such I think it will be a draw at half time, and a draw at full time. I would predict either a 0-0 or a 1-1 result.

However, my final Stoke vs. Liverpool prediction is for a Half Time/Full Time – Draw/Draw bet. The best odds are 4/1 and you can find these with Sky Bet.
