Man United v Tottenham Preview
After dicing with death on numerous occasions, Manchester United finally ran out of luck at home to Arsenal in the FA Cup earlier in the week. Once again, United had plenty of the ball with little or no cutting edge and were sparred a far more embarrassing scoreline by the heroics of David De Gea. The unfortunate Antonio Valencia will be the inevitable fall guy after his costly error, if a right winger is playing in defence though, what do you expect?!
In spite of all their critics, United's league form still remains decent and Louis van Gaal's men currently sit in the much coveted forth spot in the Premier League. They have won five of their last seven matches, most recently, ground out a hard-fought victory away to Newcastle United. Wayne Rooney is back playing as a striker and has scored or assisted in his last three matches, but LVG appears to have completely lost patience with Rademel Falcao. The misfiring Columbian has frequently been an unused substitute of late and suffered the ultimate indignity of being fielded with the U21s earlier in the week. I'm sure he's wiping away the tears with fifties.
Opponents Tottenham have recovered from a difficult first half of the season to emerge as genuine top four contenders. Similarly to United, they have also won five of their last seven matches in the league, and were unfortunate to lose to Chelsea in the League Cup final. Spurs ran The Blues close on the day only to be undone by two deflected strikes, it was a game they really needed to score first in.
Last weekend, Mauricio Pochettino's men were the only Premier League team in action and earned an excellent win away at fellow Londoners QPR. Again, the Spurs saviour was Harry Kane. The 21 year old has been a revelation this year and now has a whopping 26 goals to his name already this season.
Browsing the early prices for Sunday's clash and the bookies have United as 19/20 favourites. Spurs can be backed at a terrific price of 10/3, with the draw on offer at 14/5.
It doesn't take a genius to see that United are punching above their weight with those odds, and the very fact they haven't beaten Spurs in the last five only serves as a further deterrent. With the sides first and third in the league for a BTTS ratio, I would fully expect a few goals on Sunday and I'm going to sit on the fence and suggest backing the draw at 14/5 with Betfred.
Moving into the goalscoring market for our next Man United v Tottenham betting tips, and as previously mentioned, Wayne Rooney should continue to lead the attack for United. The England captain has scored seven goals in his last eight games against Spurs and has three goals in his last three matches in all competitions. Back Rooney to score first at 9/2 with William Hill, should he score second the bookmaker will refund you your stake.
Furthermore, considering his 26 goal haul, it would be impossible to ignore Harry Kane this weekend. With the match being at United, Kane's odds are slightly better than usual so load up on Ladbrokes where you can back the Spurs man to score anytime in the match at 2/1.
