Sunday’s Accumulator Tip:
Chelsea to beat Southampton – 1/2
Jose Mourinho will be looking for a positive reaction from his Chelsea side after their disappointing performance in midweek saw them crash out of the Champions League at the hands of PSG. With a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League, they will be keen to kick on and secure the title with a decent end to the season. The Blues are yet to lose at home, and with 11 wins from a possible 13, are a formidable outfit at Stamford Bridge. Southampton have began to drop down the league as they continue to battle for the top four, but still just sit four point behind fourth spot. A 1-0 defeat to West Brom in their last away game, saw a run of four consecutive wins on the road come to an end, and given their poor record against the top sides this season, it’s hard to see them picking up three points here.
Manchester United to beat Tottenham – 4/5
Another side who suffered cup disappointment in the week were Man United who fell at the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup to Arsenal. As the pressure on Louis van Gaal increases, a good run of results is vital in a bid to secure Champions League football next term. A win over Tottenham this weekend will be key, something which they will be going all out to achieve. United have the second best home record in the league, with 11 wins and just two defeats from 14. They have won their last three at Old Trafford by a margin of two goals, and will be confident of another similar result this time. Despite some impressive performances of late, Spurs have been inconsistent in recent weeks, but still find themselves just three points off United and will pose a very stiff test for the home side.
Everton to beat Newcastle – 4/5
Everton’s league form continues to baffle given their impressive performances in the Europa League. However it may be worth sticking with the home side, as they face Newcastle at Goodison Park this weekend. The Blues will be under pressure for a win, as they look to settle fears of relegation after just one win in 10 games. Without a win in five, they will be desperate for three points, with just six points separating them from the bottom three. But they certainly have the required quality in their squad to overcome a Newcastle side sitting safely in mid table. However just one win in five, including a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City in their last away game, doesn’t provide much confidence for Geordie fans, and with little to play for, they could be in danger of losing some of the intensity in the last 10 games. With plenty of work left to do for Everton, this won’t be the case for them, and they can come out with all three points on Sunday.
Sevilla to beat Elche – 2/5
An impressive away win at La Liga rivals Villarreal in the Europa League, has proved good preparation for Sunday’s game with Elche, as they look to close the gap on Valencia who occupy the last Champions League spot. A five point deficit could prove difficult to close, and they will know that anything less than a win will do this weekend. A strong outfit at home, Sevilla have not lost on their own turf as of yet, with nine wins and four draws, and look a good bet to improve on this record, after a 0-0 draw against reining champions Atletico Madrid certainly a confidence booster. Elche have won just three games on the road so far, and sit just three points off the bottom three. Three wins in their last five have been most welcome in their bid to avoid the drop, but a trip to Sevilla presents a real difficult test, and one which they could struggle to overcome.
Sassuolo to beat Parma – 4/7
Following a period of uncertainty surrounding the future of Parma, it looks inevitable they will finish bottom of Serie A after 18 defeats from 24 games. Three wins all season has left them in a perilous situation, and with the worst away form in the league, their chances look slim once again. Their opponents Sassuolo have been on a poor run of form, losing their last four, but will know they have a great opportunity to stop the rot, and will be expected to get back to winning ways. A battling display away at Juventus, saw them lose out in the final 10 minutes in a narrow 1-0 defeat, and a repeat performance should be good enough this weekend.
PSG to beat Bordeaux – 10/11
PSG will be bouncing after a milestone victory on away goals over Chelsea, where they produced a brilliant performance given they played a large majority of the game with 10 men. They will be looking to maintain this level of performance, as they strive to overtake Lyon at the top of Ligue 1, and just a point behind, can capitalise on any slip up. Their away form domestically hasn’t been too impressive, but they are unbeaten in their last three on the road after draws with both Lyon and Monaco, and they certainly have sufficient quality in their squad to come out on top against Bordeaux. A good run of form, sees the home side just a point off the European places, and they will no doubt present a difficult challenge for the reigning champions. Unbeaten in five; with three wins, they will fancy their chances of causing an upset, but if PSG can build on their midweek performance, they will be hard to overcome.
