Wolves v Watford – BTTS? Yes

This game has the markings of an entertaining clash as both sides have been playing well and scoring goals of late. Watford beat Fulham in midweek by a single goal, but they often look suceptible at the back and with the threat of Benik Afobe and Nouah Dicko’s pace in behind, they could concede during the 90 minutes. This game was expected to be a goal fest on Boxing Day when these sides met and there was disappointingly just a single goal, but it could and should be different this time around. Wolves have scored 10 in their last 4 games whilst Watford have been involved in a 3-2 and 4-3 with Leeds and Bolton respectively.

 

Rochdale v Colchester – Rochdale win

Rochdale have been playing superbly at home this season and thumped Crewe 4-0 on Tuesday. Colchester have been inconsistent at best, beating leaders Bristol City, but losing at home to Notts County. Ian Henderson and Joe Bunney grabbed 2 each in midweek showing that the goalscoring void hasn’t widened since the departure of Matt Done to Sheffield United. They lost to the aforementioned Blades, but did beat Chesterfield at Spotland before that and should have too much for Colchester.

 

Gillingham v Doncaster – Gillingham win

The Gills hierarchy took their time replacing Peter Taylor and it paid dividends as Justin Edinburgh came in and has improved Gillingham’s performances considerably and their 3-0 victory at Stadium MK was the cherry on top of a superb recent run. Just one loss in that period and they could get something against Doncaster here. Donny have a decent record on the road, but haven’t won in their 2 on their travels including a woeful 3-0 defeat to Port Vale. The Kent team should make home advantage pay here.

 

Shrewsbury v Cambridge – Shrewbsury win

Perhaps Cambridge took their eye off the ball during their FA Cup run which culminated with a defeat to Manchester United, but they have been woeful in the league of late. They lost 3-0 at home to York, a side who find it difficult to win in any capacity and shipped 6 to Portsmouth previously. The U’s have some good players and Richard Money will have to get some results to avoid them slipping into the relegation pack. They won’t get it here though as Shrewsbury had a rare home blip against Northampton but have been superb at home this season so far. Mickey Mellon’s men should have too much for their out of sorts visitors.

 

Stevenage to beat Newport

I backed Newport on Tuesday night and they were exceptionally poor and lost to a Mansfield side who had lost all of their 5 previous away games. This time, they visit Stevenage, a side who are superb at home. Graham Westley isn’t the most popular man in the country, he’s probably not the most popular man in his own home, but he is getting the most out of his players and has signed some good players from Non-league such as Tom Pett and Dean Wells. They’ve won 11 of their 17 home games this season, only losing 4 of them and should be able to beat Newport who are still finding their feet under Jimmy Dack.
