Free football tips for Aston Villa v West Brom and predictions for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter final match.
For the second time in a week it's the West Midlands derby between Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, only this time a place in the FA Cup semi-finals is at stake. Tune into BBC 1 at 17:30 on Saturday and here are some free football betting tips.
After finally ending a truly horrid losing streak in the league on Tuesday evening, Tim Sherwood's attention now switches to the other end of the spectrum and a chance to book a place at Wembley. Against the same opponents as earlier in the week, if his Villa side play anywhere near the same level, they will have a great chance of doing so.
Tuesday's win over West Brom was thoroughly warranted, even if the hosts were a little fortunate at the end. Villa were by far and away the more attacking of the two sides, and should have been further ahead when The Baggies equalised with yet another set-piece goal and their only shot on target in the game. Furthermore, the nonchalance in which Christian Benteke dispatched his injury time penalty shows that the Belgian's confidence has far from wilted during his barren spell.
Moving away from domestic matters and Villa's run to the quarter-finals has been well earned. Despite being handed four home ties in a row, The Villains haven't always been so fortunate with their opponents. Narrow wins over have Blackpool, Bournemouth and Leicester City have certainly seen the Birmingham side work hard for their right to be in the last eight.
For West Brom, Tony Pulis will definitely need to approach Saturday's clash in a different manner if they are to earn at least earn a replay. The Baggies rarely troubled the goal on Tuesday evening despite playing two in-form strikers up top. Both Berhaino and Ideye were starved of service and Albion seem set on playing out for a point for most of the match. It was an insipid attacking display and West Brom got what they deserved – nothing.
Nevertheless, form had been decent heading into that match and The Baggies were previously unbeaten in four league games. Their run to the quarters was also impressive and had seen heavy wins against Gateshead and West Ham, whilst also including a fine away performance at fellow Midlands side Birmingham City.
Once again, prices for Saturday's encounter have very little to choose between the two sides. Aston Villa are marginal favourites at 7/4. West Brom can be backed at a slightly longer 19/10, with the draw on offer at 9/4.
As always, the first goal will be crucial in this clash. If West Brom can nick one early, then it could be a very long afternoon for the home team. Villa will be full of confidence after their win earlier in the week, but surely West Brom will show more ambition. Regardless of what happened on Tuesday, these are still two of the Premier League's lowest scoring teams so whatever happens, it's likely to be a close scoreline. With this in mind, I can see the match ending in a draw and Boylesports have the best odds on that result at 9/4.
Moving into the goalscoring market and I expect Christian Benteke kicking on from his last-gasp penalty. More often than not it takes something to kick-start a run in form, and I think that goal could be just what Benteke was looking for. A season ago, the Belgian international's odds would have been quite poor, but considering Villa's current plight, he can fetch quite a reasonable price at present. Therefore, back Benteke to open the scoring with Betfred's DDHH promotion at 5/1, and scoring anytime in 90 minutes at 2/1 with Bet Victor.
