Sunday Accumulator Tip:
West Ham to beat Bristol City – 21/20
West Ham are enjoying life in the Premier League this season, and are well in the hunt for a European place after last week’s 3-0 win over Hull. They take a break from league action this Sunday, as they travel to Bristol City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, a competition that they may feel provides them with a good opportunity for success this season, having seemingly steered clear of a relegation battle this year. Having overcome Everton in a dramatic replay last week, they look good value to make it into the next round, at the expense of a side currently playing two divisions below them in League One. On a four match winning run, Bristol City currently occupy the second automatic promotion spot in a bid to return to the Championship, and with just one home defeat so far, could provide a stern test for the top flight side. However given the apparent difference in class between the two teams, it’s worth sticking with the Hammers, who on paper should prove too strong for the League One outfit.
Arsenal to beat Brighton – 6/10
Confidence will be high in the Arsenal camp after they put on arguably their best away performance in recent years last weekend when defeating reigning Premier League champions Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad. Their focus will now be on progressing to the next round of the FA Cup, and having won the competition last season, will be keen to do so when they travel to Championship side Brighton. The Seagulls recorded a vital win in midweek, lifting them six points above the drop zone, but the victory was only their third from 14 on their home patch in the league, where they have struggled so far. Given the obvious difference in class between the two sides; with Brighton sitting in a lower division, Arsenal would seem to be a great price to get the win, making the Gunners the selection.
Deportivo La Coruna to beat Granada – 13/10
A battle of two sides struggling in La Liga this season; Deportivo welcome Granada this weekend in a vital relegation encounter. Just a point above the bottom three; Deportivo will be desperate for a win in order to widen the gap from the drop zone. Despite losing their last home game to Barcelona, where they went down 4-0, they won their previous two games in front of their own fans, a good sign especially given their opponents troubles on the road. Granada sit last in the table three points from safety, and have lost their last four on the road. They have only managed one win from 10 on their travels, scoring just six goals, something they will need to address fast if they want to stay up. Given their struggles away from home, it could prove a good decision to side with the home team once again, making Deportivo the selection at a tempting price.
Lyon to beat Metz – 7/20
French side Lyon continued their superb run of form last weekend, winning 2-0 at Lens to cement the point advantage at the top of the table. Given the fact they have won every game since the end of November, it’s hard to oppose them picking up another three points when they play host to Metz. Having won 10 out of 11 home games, Lyon will fancy their chances once more against a side that hold the worst away record in the division; with just a solitary win on the road all season. Sitting just above the relegation on goal difference, it could be a case of damage limitation for Metz if Lyon were to take an early lead, and with four defeats from their last five, it’s hard to see the visitors returning with anything, making Lyon the selection once more.
PSG to beat St Etienne – 6/5
Sunday’s clash between St Etienne and PSG is of great importance to both sides, as they look to close the gap on Lyon at the top of Ligue 1. Fourth and third respectively, this has all the makings of a close encounter that could go either way given recent form. While PSG are without a win on the road in their last three; which includes two successive defeats, St Etienne have only lost once at home all season; winning their last three. While the home side will be thrilled to be involved in not only the Champions League race, but also an outside shot at the title, PSG are under immense pressure to retain their title, and will be expected to put together a long winning run in the coming weeks, given the talent in their squad. Having left St Etienne with a victory in the cup just last week, it’s certainly well within their capabilities to do so again, and therefore the reigning champions will be the selection, albeit a tentative one.
