Each-way betting tip for World Cup 2014: World Cup's that are hosted in South America, have always been won by a South American team but we have found a 33/1 outsider for next summer's tournament.
If the trend is to continue in 2014, you would normally assume either Brazil or Argentina would win the World Cup in Brazil; however in qualification the surprise package came from Columbia who are top price 33/1 with Coral. They finished second overall in the South American qualifying table picking up some great results along the way.
This includes a 4-0 victory against Copa America holders Uruguay, a 3-1 win away at Chile and a 2-1 victory away to Bolivia where many teams struggle due to the climate. They also managed a 0-0 draw away against the group winners Argentina and have clearly shown they can compete against some of the best countries. Obviously they will have to battle against more than just the South American teams to do well in the World Cup, they have upcoming friendlies against European outfits Holland and Belgium which will well worth keeping an eye to see how Columbia fare against strong potential World Cup opponents.
Looking at their squad, the stand out area are the forwards. In Falcao they have one of the worlds best strikers, his record speaks for itself, since joining Porto in 2009 he has scored 100 goals in 117 games. He record for Columbia is slightly more modest with 19 goals in 49 games but with him on the pitch you have a lethal front man who is always a goal threat. Alongside him they have some great options. James Rodriguez is a skilful wide forward who now plays alongside Falcao for Monaco. The pair have helped fire them to the top of Ligue 1 and are clearly effective together for Columbia too. They can also call upon Porto striker Jackson Martinez, the forward is 27 years old but exploded onto the scene when he joined Porto in 2012 and has since scored 33 goals in 37 games and attracting plenty of interest from some of the best clubs in the world. The fact that impressive Udinese forward Luis Muriel, who is also a target potential target for many top clubs, cannot get into the starting 11 is a testament to the great attacking talent Columbia can choose from.
Their midfield and defence are more functional than spectacular but have proved good enough to help Columbia achieve comfortable qualification. They are captained by veteran Mario Yepes, who is a big strong centre back capable of scoring the odd goal himself. Other notable players include Napoli midfielder Juan Camilo Zúñiga and Milan defender Christian Zapata who help provide the backbone to the team allowing Falcao and co to do the damage at the other end. At 33/1 they provide the best value for an outside bet whilst being an exciting team to watch.
