Will Wayne Rooney actually turn up at Euro 2016 next summer?

After what has so far been yet another largely forgettable campaign for the individual talents of current Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney, many have once again sought to criticise the 30-year-old striker for his seeming inability to reproduce his best form out on the pitch.

At this stage in the proceedings, Wayne Rooney goes down as the highest ever England goal-scorer on the international scene, beating the illustrious likes of Bobby Charlton, Gary Linekar and Jimmy Greaves to that all-important no. 1 spot. Nowadays however, the out-of-sorts Red Devils man seems to prefer drifting deeper and working off of other strikers, whilst his own ability in front of goal subsequently decreases as the seasons play out.

 

At 30-years-old, we should still be expecting Wayne Rooney to be at his very best. He is by no means old at this stage in his career, for age is no excuse for a talent as high profile as this one. The current Old Trafford front-man hasn’t played at his full potential for a good few seasons now truth be told though, and it remains difficult to picture the England man picking up his form any time soon as a result of his dramatic down-turn.

 

Therefore, despite the general sense of hype that will inevitably reach the Three Lions captain upon entry to the competition itself, this Euro 2016 prediction fails to foresee much improvement from England as a whole. Rooney no longer seems to know what position he is best suited to in the starting XI, Roy Hodgson seemingly lacks the enigmatic nature to push his captain further out of his shell, and the rest of the England squad remain equally disjointed and identity-less for any meaningful expectations to build in a positive manner.  

 

Whilst Wayne Rooney is by no means a bad player these days, no one really knows what he provides in his respective teams, both domestically and within the international scene. For him to then be handed the captain’s armband in both set-ups in light of his distinct lack of form – Euro 2016 betting tips could easily shun England’s hopes of impressing next summer on the basis of such a questionable line of thinking alone.
