Will the Premier League prove a step too far for Zlatan?

Let’s face it, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s initial move to Manchester United was first officially announced this summer, the vast majority of Premier League football fans clearly felt a wave of predicted excitement wash over them in enthralling style – regardless of which BPL club you happen to support.

Even Manchester City fans must have felt the winds of euphoria hit them at some stage or another when the long-awaited news first broke, for although the former Swedish international is certainly beginning to operate within the twilight stages of his career right in the here and now, the English top-flight will arguably be far better off with such an undisputed legend of the modern game operating on these here shores next season.

Yet will the often testing nature of the Premier League ultimately prove a step too far for Zlatan Ibrahimovic within the grand scheme of things? Has the former Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan and PSG star simply left it too late to make a real name for himself among the English game, or could Manchester United fans actually look towards that all-important league title now that the infamous 34-year-old has finally joined up with the first team fold at Old Trafford? We shall have to wait and see…

Although many will nonetheless criticise Zlatan for being too old to genuinely make much of an impact within the Premier League next term, the man himself will likely view his age as nothing more than a number with the hordes of Old Trafford fans expecting big things from the marquee striker next season. Ibrahimovic scored 50 goals in all competitions for PSG last term, eventually recording a rather successful season which proved anything but underwhelming in the cold light of day.

Whilst the money men behind the scenes at Manchester United likely witnessed dollar signs in their eyes once they considered just how much money the club would be making from shirt sales alone on the back of the recent transfer, the 34-year-old striker clearly remains in tip-top shape ahead of what will likely prove a rather captivating 2016/17 campaign among the Premier League next season.

As Zlatan has previously expressed his capability ‘to kill for [Jose] Mourinho’ should the former Chelsea boss ever ask such a thing of him, surely the combination brought about by these two stars of the modern era will serve to launch Manchester United back among the big time sooner rather than later. It’s a move that ultimately seems destined to happen when all is said and done.

So then, although the Old Trafford faithful probably won’t see a great deal from the former Swedish international in future seasons beyond this current period in time, the 2016/17 campaign is simply bound to excite down at Manchester United next term with Zlatan Ibrahimovic finally looking to assert himself within the Premier League, before calling an end to his illustrious career right at the very top of the European game.
