We start early this weekend, on Friday as Juventus’ Serie A match has been brought forward a few days to help them prepare for next week’s Champions League match against Dortmund. Atletico Madrid (-0.5 handicap).

Somehow Atlético transpired to get beat last week away to Vigo. They will get back to winning ways this week as they host an Almeria side that hover over the relegation zone. Simeone’s men lost ground on the top two and they won’t want to fall any further behind the leaders who both have straight forward games this week. We go with the home side -0.5 meaning we just need to win by one to be successful.

 

Wolfsburg (-1 handicap).

There’s a theory that you shouldn’t back sides the game after they’ve played in the Europa League as they tend to struggle. This reasoning is discredited by Wolfsburg as the German team have won five and drawn one of their following six league encounters after playing in the competition. Part of this is down to their quality but also a trick of fate has meant that after every European game they have had a home fixture. And you know what? They play at home this weekend as well. They host a Hertha side with the joint worst away record and have won just one in five. We go Wolfsburg -1.

 

Real Madrid (-0.5 handicap).

Finally we come to Real Madrid. Since blowing everyone away last year Los Blancos haven’t been performing to the same standard in recent weeks. They were battered by Atlético, laboured to a 2-0 victory over Deportivo and needed a last minute penalty to see of Cordoba. They’ll beat Elche but it might be closer than people think. I’ll play ultra conservatively and go Madrid -0.5.
