The Hornets claimed their first victory of the season in spectacular style last weekend. Having been 2-0 behind away to West Ham, they ran out 4-2 winners. They’ll need that fighting spirit again on Sunday, when Manchester United arrive in town. The Red Devils won here last season, and it’s hard to see how Watford have moved forward since then. They’ve changed managers and added a few new players, but they don’t look much improved on last season’s squad. Manchester United

United will come in to this smarting at their defeat by Man City. That derby loss could prove to be massive in the title race. However, Jose Mourinho’s sides have a habit of bouncing back quickly. They tend to respond well after defeat, that’s what the Red Devils need to do here. Europa League action may have distracted them in midweek, but Mourinho will ring plenty of changes between that game and their return to league action. That gives their first choice team a long break from last weekend’s defeat, so they’ll be itching to set things straight.

One notable thing about United’s defeat against City was the goals they conceded. Just as those attacks weren’t very Guardiola-like, the defending wasn’t to the typical Mourinho standard. He prides himself on organisation, but his new side aren’t quite there yet. This weekend’s game presents another tough test for their backline. Watford’s front two arguably have a better understanding than any other in the top flight. The Hornets have struggled at the back, conceding two goals a game on average this term. However, they make up for that with talent going forward. When you add that to United’s firepower and vulnerable defence, it’s strange to see over 2.5 goals at 10/11 with Betfair.
