Uruguay are struggling to qualify for the World Cup 2014 and need a near faultless set of results in their remaining games to make it to Brazil next summer, but their more immediate concern is the upcoming Confederations Cup.
France manager Didier Deschamps has selected a young squad with only one member over the age of 30 and the average age just 25 and four players who could earn their first cap however the experience of Benzema, Sagna and Hugo Lloris will still be on the tour.
Uruguay will look to the firepower of Luis Suarez, Edison Cavani and Diego Forlan to drag them out of World Cup qualification trouble but their more immediate concern will be a strong showing against France, leading to the Confederations Cup in Brazil later this month.
The past four meetings between these two sides have ended goalless, it’s 8/1 (Sky Bet) we get another 0-0 draw on Wednesday.
Uruguay have certainly been out of sorts of late, in the past 18 months they have played 15 times, winning only three of those matches, drawing six and losing six. This run has included six World Cup 2014 qualifiers where they have lost four and only drawn the other two.
France are a nation in transition as they look to build a serious squad for Brazil 2014 but they will need to do it the hard way as it looks like they will be chasing second place in their group behind Spain after their 1-0 defeat by the World Champions in Paris back in March.
In what looks set to be an experimental opportunity for both managers this one could go either way, but with the likes of Benzema, Suarez and Cavani there are plenty of goal scorers on show and a chance is taken on these two to reverse their head to head form and give us some goals. Over 2.5 goals seems generous at 6/4 (Ladbrokes) and Luis Suarez has to be fancied to score, he’s 13/8 with Bet365 to do so.
