Three Best Bets for this Weekend’s Football – 17th November

Thankfully, domestic action returns this Saturday, and I have selected three Premier League games to keep a close eye on before finalising your weekend picks.

Reading vs Everton

Everton travel to the Madejski Stadium for a 3 o’clock kick off against a Reading side who have yet to win a league game all season, and the Toffees can continue their impressive early season form with 3 points on Saturday.

The Merseysiders occupy 4th spot in the table and are unbeaten in their last 8 league games.  Belgian international Marouane Fellaini has really found his true form this season and is an early contender for player of the year.  He has struck up a lethal partnership with Nikita Jelavic, and the pair will prove a handful for a Reading side that have shipped 9 goals in 5 home games.

Sitting 3rd from bottom, Brian McDermott’s side are desperate for their first league victory, and buoyed on by a boisterous and noisy home crowd, will try and attack Everton, which should allow players like Osman & Pienaar find space to provide the ammunition for their two in-form strikers.

Reading will put up a strong fight, but I believe David Moyes’ side will have too much in hand over their opponents, and the 15/8 available from StanJames for Jelavic to score at any time appears to represent real value.

Norwich vs Man United

In Saturday’s late game, league leaders Manchester United travel to Carrow Road looking for their 6th win on the bounce.  It took a last minute Ryan Giggs winner in last season’s corresponding fixture to snatch the points for the Red Devils, but they are in far superior form this time around and have netted 15 times in their last 5 games.

United are scoring goals for fun, and still looked comfortably in control even when two goals down to Aston Villa last weekend. Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney will have plenty of chances against a less than watertight Norwich defence, and if one of them haven’t brought their shooting boots, the ‘little pea’ Hernandez can be sprung from the bench to continue his fine goal-scoring form whenever United have needed important goals recently.

Norwich have been improving game by game, but have been on the receiving end of a couple of heavy defeats this season. Goalkeeper John Ruddy has been in outstanding form of late, but he will need his back four to equal his recent heroics, if they are to keep out a side who have already 29 times in the league.

Man Utd are really running into some serious form, and will pay more respect to Norwich this time around after last season’s last gasp victory.  Expect them to show their superior class and dispose of Chris Hughton’s side with a couple of goals to spare.  Back them with a –1 handicap @ 7/5 with Paddy Power

Fulham vs Sunderland

Fulham host Sunderland at Craven Cottage in the only Premier League fixture on Super Sunday, and I really fancy them to get all 3 points against a Sunderland side who have only one league win to their name this season.

Martin O’ Neill’s side have lost 3 of their last 5, and have only managed to net 4 times in their 6 away fixtures to date.  They are a side seriously lacking confidence at the moment and are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Fulham have only lost once in their last 7 games, but their traditionally strong home form is the foremost reason I have selected them this weekend.  They’ve been defending well at home, only conceding 4, and if Berbatov’s fine form continues, he could single-handedly put the Black Cats to the sword.

Martin Jol’s team are a tough side to break down at home, and are more than capable of keeping Sunderland scoreless. The 9/4 available with Ladbrokes for Fulham to win to nil is a bet worth considering, and the scorelines of 1-0 and 2-0 are 7/1 & 8/1 respectively.

Sunderland are in a rut at the moment, and Martin O’Neill’s summer signings are struggling to gel together.  Craven Cottage is a difficult ground to go to for most sides, and I think the Black Cats poor run of form will continue here.

Recommendation: Fulham to beat Sunderland @ 3/4 with Paddy Power
